Need a new receiver - 06.15.2007, 12:29 AM

I have the Futaba 3PM-FM radio and my wire broke on my receiver, so I need a new one.

I currently have the Futaba R153F 3-Channel FM 75MHz, should I just replace it with the same one? Or, is there another one that is a better option.

resolder the wire.

if it broke at the box and you can't solder close enough, open the box and solder the wire.

You can even buy a new receiver wire if you don't want a soldered wire.

Good idea, it ripped off at the top of the Antenna Tube, so I would be able to solder it. Once I solder it, should I shrink wrap it? I lost the part that hangs from the top, so how long of wire should I solder on? I'm assuming a longer wire would be better.

No, the longer wire is not better. An antenna has to be in tune with the wavelength of the signal received.

Found a wavelength calculator, you can calculate the length of the antenna with http://www.qsl.net/haha/calc.html

I put in 75 Mhz, and it returned 37.44 inches. Does that seem long?

Thanks!!

Yeah, just make it the stock length which was 19.6 in and put heatshrink over the solder connection.

Notice that is roughly the same length as the replacement wire I linked to earlier.

Matching the wavelength might be good when you need every last foot, but is most likely overkill for most ground vehicles.

That's probably for a full wave. You can cut the wire in exactly half for a half wave, and shouldn't have any appreciable loss in signal. Antenna length is most important for a transmitter (could actually damage the RF amplifier), but a receiver is less picky.
