Ok, I'm not sure if this has been addressed here or not . . . if it has, sorry. You can just post a link to the thread and I'll check it out. As the title says - this thread is about questions I have on truggy tires.
My first question is about offset. I see some people using adapters to run 0mm offset and I don't know why. Can anyone tell me the advantage there? Why would I or wouldn't I want to go that route?
My second question is about tire profile. I see many of the lower profile tires like on the new X2-CRT and the 8ight-T, but not every truggy is going that route. Like the XT8 for example. So my question is . . . is the lower profile better? And if so - why?
i know on the xt8 the steering rods rub the inside of the wheel, so i ordered a set of king headz 11mm offset hubs and a set of dace 6mm offset hubs for mugen mbx5(dace doesn't make them for xray, but mugen uses the same drive pin) to run 0 offset wheels. i like the grp cubics, which are premounted and low profile. they don't balloon as much and they have less sidewall flex.
I see. My extenders for my XT8 are KMW but I don't know what the extension measurement is. It came with two sets of 0mm offset wheels though. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep them or go to something else. I've never run 0mm offset so I don't know why I would or wouldn't.
Offset just depends on your driving style. 0 offset wheels will let you whip better in the turns. 1/2" offset or fulloffset wheels will make it a little harder to whip but it will make the truck feel more stable and less likely to roll over. Like I said, it just depends on your driving style.
what i was trying to do was to use 0 offset wheels and get back to the stock width of th xt8, thats what the adapters are for. you want to keep factory width, thats what all the r&d is for! i wouldn't go messing with the width of the truck. i'm sure xray spent tons of money on the research that brought to the width of the xt8.
Sweet - that would be hilarious. I think what I'm going to do is go to the regular offset but use the larger diameter wheels and lower profile tires. Like on the 8-T.
Well, the factory width is a range - it's not exact. Are there any options to go with the larger diameter rims and lower profile tires? What is the factory offset of the tires anyway?
i have read 11mm is built into the xray wheels. i was told to buy +6mm hubs and then i was told to buy +11mm hubs. the king headz +11mm hubs are what i'm running at the moment and the work well. they are also listed for the xray xt8 specifically!
