Center diff in G2. Problems with fitting UE GenIV servo saver.

Hi all,

I have collected some nice parts for a new build. I was lucky finding a GorillaMaxx G2 Extended chassis in mint condition and also a RCM center diff/motor mount.

I see others have installed the center diff at the front and I can make it fit there too. However, my UE GenIV servo saver will definitely hit the center diff drive cup.

Question 1:

Will I need to install the center diff in a different location to make room for the steering?

Question 2:

I have a feeling I will need some custom length center drive shafts for this truck. Any suggestions on who to contact for custom center drive shafts?

1: Probably move it a bit back. Maybe pm Bosox, I don't know if he had his with a gen4 saver, but the centerdiff definately is up front.

Considering different mounting options. What do you think; motor turning forward or backward?:

Motor forward. Slide it forward a little bit more. Did you think about trying to find a smaller drive cup?

Look around online, maybe you can find some drive shafts already made. Try to find a set before you mount it, so it the closet driveshaft you could find is 1 or 2mm shorter just bring it back or move it forward. Then just find one for the front.

So did you ever get any answers from Bosox on how he made his work mounted up front like that??

He went as far as getting custom shafts made for it in that position so he must of had some kind of answers or solution.

Yes, I got in touch with him and he told me: custom shfts and custom GenIV servo saver. The firwt I could do, the second not, so I'll probably make a mounting plate instead.

What was the mod to the Gen IV??

As I understood it was a custom piece for the servo saver - the piece that connects to the steering drag link (if that's what it's called). I have no chance of having that made so I'm going for the next best solution which should be good also. :)

Wanted to show the center diff mounting plate I've had made. I wanted it this way so I have different options for mounting it and it can be installed both facing forward and backward. The plan is to install it facing forward as it is now. The rear dog bone is the one from the FLM10900.

Wow, very nice! How did you make that diff plate? CNC or by hand?

A friend helped me draw it in 3D and he also has access to a CNC machine. I wish I could do this kind of stuff by hand but I don't have the skills.

A bit more info on the RC-Monster center diff mounting plate. It's made from 5754 aluminum and is 5mm thick. 6061 and 7075 aluminum is rare and VERY expensive here but for this application/design 5754 is plenty strong (quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium_alloy):

Aluminium alloys 5052, 5251, 5754 are very similar grades, only differing in the amount of magnesium. 5052 has 2.5% magnesium and is commonly used in the U.S.; 5251 has 2% magnesium and is commonly used in the UK; and 5754 has 3% magnesium and is commonly used in Europe. Due to their formability, corrosion resistance and weldability these grades are commonly used in pressure vessels, tanks, fitting, boat hulls, and van bodies. Their salt water corrosion resistance is better than the 1200 grade and their strength is better than the 3003 grade.
