Brushless Hyper st pro Build

I am finally planning my truggy project. After a long time of debating I think i found everything i was looking for. I wanted the truggy itself to be top quality without killing my wallet, so me and a buddy found the Ofna Hyper st Pro kit, $450 new, not bad. Of course I will be using to rcm motor mount, if it works with this model. Once it is rereleased i will be using the monster max for this build. I found the kb45 8L motor to be quite appealing, it's a beast! I have heard great things about it, and it should be more than enough power to push along my truggy. And as long as I am ordering the motor from unitedhobbies I may as well order the other things i need, like a bettery and servo. I have heard good things about the Zippy-H 4000mah 25-35c 5s battery, so why not give it a try. And I found a decent looking servo for dirt cheap, I have no idea what to expect. All links are below:

Yes, it'll be a great conversion indeed! Now we can actually have some fun bashing at the Cub Foods BXM track and maybe at winnebagoland. We should ride on up to Green Bay and run on their huge indoor track aswell. "Biggest in the state"

BTW: Kershaw sells 6mm bored pinions.

The KB has I believe 30mm motor mount spacing which means it won't work with mikes mount.

It also uses a 6mm shaft so you will have difficulty with pinions - You may be able to get ones that have been drilled out but I doubt they will be hard enough to last against a steel spur.

That servo is good speed wise but light on torque - HS5595 are going for $80 why skimp after spending so much on a kit.

worth pulling the shaft/rotor out and getting it machined down to 5mm ?? will save alot of headaches with pinions gears .
im watching this thread closely as i have the same truggy and motor plans in the woodwork

I have my doubts about that motor. As above with the size concerns, it sounds like the motor tends to run hot. You usually get what you pay for, and in this case I don't understand cheaping out on the motor when there are some that would work better for not much more $. Sometimes you can spend a dollar to save a dime.

I would look at getting a 9 or 10XL, or better yet a medusa 60mm motor, either a 1600 or 2000kv.

The hyper mount works great, however the ST spur is quite a bit wider than the buggy 46T that the mount's spur guard is made for. PLan for this else order a smaller spur (i got a 46T, but it puts a smooth can XL right upto the rear brace. Not sure bigger motors would fit.

The 5955 TG is an awesome servo too. I had it in my Revo and now hyper ST. Tons and tons of TQ

The ST is known for its buggy handling and excellent turning - If you're spending 400+ on a kit and buying a mmm I don't understand not balancing the purchase with the motor and servo.

If the intention is that these are a stop gap then no issue but experience has shown it tends to be false economy.

My 2c is that I personally think you'd be better off saving $150-200 by buying a nice roller and then buying a better elecs (motor and servo).

PS 132 is at 6v - the mmm is set at 5.5v so your looking more like 125.

Well seeing how the kb45 has the wrong mounting demensions I am going to skip it. But seeing how I am making an order from unitedhobbies I may as well buy a motor that will atleast get me started untill I purchase a motor of higher quality. It seems that unitedhobbies replaced there feigaos with the new KD36 series, and customers have been having better luck. So I may as well give one a try.

HAHA, I had mine before you did! Funny thing is that I will most likelt not finish it for a while. I have never really finished a truggy before I have sold it. And I have has 2 lsps, 1 crt, and some others that I can't remember. Just prefer MTs!!! I will finish it eventually, I actually like it better than the other truggies.

I have a few of the kb45 motors and they are monsters. Well worth having to turn the shaft down to 5mm, and drill/tap the front endbell to the correct dimension. I will say that 5s on the 8l would be too much rpm, and that 4000 lipo would no be able to keep up. I run the 8l in a ofna gtp on 4s lipo (2 trakpowers in series) and they are almost not good enough. These motors are beasts, I have a 10xl waiting for me to put it in an aftershock on 8s....

The kb 45s do not really run hot from my experience, but they have alot of torque...

The L can 45 can pull more amps than an xl feigao, but it also makes more power and runs cooler. I would take the 8l over a 7xl feigao any day, even with the mods required. I made my own motor mount for the gtp, so the 30mm mount spacing was no big beal. I also am running a plastic spur, and the 18 and 20t pinions that sdp-si sells were correct for the gearing. I have already lunched the front diff, but that was during a spectacular radio glitch induced front flip. Imagine this car flipping about 15 feet in the air for about 30ft and landing on its wheels!





I can only imagine what the xl 45 motors can do. I was going to run a cc hv85 with the 10xl on 8s, and am wondering if it can keep up with the kb motor...
