Windows Vista 64 Bit/Castle Link Solution Found! - 08.26.2008, 08:20 AM

After Several install attempts and reading "it won't work", I decided to research what was happening inside my Vista operating system.

Vista has such secure protection features when installing new software. Perhaps a little too much.

Each time I had tried to install, it would bail out in the middle of the installation, and uninstall.

I did 4 things to make this work. I'm not sure that EACH step is completely necessary, but I'm going to list each thing that I did.

#1. Download the installation file to your hard drive. On the Castle link download page, right click on "Download Now", then choose "save target as". Be sure you put it in a folder where you can remember it's location. LOL

#2. Open Windows Explorer, locate the CastleLinkInstall file that you just downloaded. Right Click on it and choose "Properties" from the drop down menu.

#3. Under the "Compatibility Tab", place a check mark beside "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then choose "windows xp" from the drop down menu.

#4. At the bottom of the window, place a check beside "Run this program as an Administrator".

During installation, you will be prompted with a message "Can not verify the source of this driver, Do you want to install anyway?" Of course you do!

From this point, It's Plug and Play!

I hope this helps!

Patrick, I'm sure you've been asked "HOW" a number of times. Please feel free to pass this information along.

I am so happy there is a solution. My newest computer is almost always on. It's a Quad Core Pentium, 4 gigs of DDR Ram, 750 Gig Hard drive, Windows 64 bit, being viewed through a 46" lcd TV for a monitor.

Now I don't have to drag out my old Windows XP Laptop and wait 10 minutes for it to boot up anymore!

It should work if you just save to desktop and when you run the install package select "run as admin" - I then set the shortcut to "run as admin" - I shouldn't need to set the compatability to XP.

However it only works with a MMM and a cc-bec however it won't install the HID for a MM... Have you got it to work with a MM?

Aaaah! No, mine won't work with the MM for lack of the MM Driver.

It only works with the Monster as of right now.

Is there a place where we can download the MM driver and do a manual install of the driver?

That is what I thought - sadly no Vista 64 for driver for that chip ;)

I can't remember the name of the USB chip manufacturer of the top of my head but I had reached out to them about this but got no response... :(

Works with the BEC too - I would guess anything that uses the castlelink

I dont have the 64 bit, but the 32 bit and after I downloaded the program I performed a right click on the program icon and from there you can choose to"Run as Administator"

The issue is that Vista 64 has a more protected kernal and only allows for signed device drivers which I don't believe the MM is and hence it won't install them...

I had previously tried to save it with Vista 32 and it would not let me for my MM.I tried to run as an Adminstrator but it would keep a stupid little box saying it was uncompatible,if I clicked it it would erase,or erase whenever I turned off my computer. Now I changed it to XP compatible it seems to be good. Thanks for the tip

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I just thought I would see if everyone else that is running the 64 bit is getting this to work using this method. I should be installing it on my new laptop within the next couple of days and being that this thread is a few months old, I thought I had better check to see if there were any new updates. I have checked the Castle site, and at this point it doesn't look like there are any new updates on their end, so that brought me back here. Thanks in advance for the help!

I think they fixed the problem. Mine works fine without doing anything special.

Post Castle Link Vista 32 bit vs 64 bit compatibility - 01.13.2009, 11:43 AM

Just to reiterate and summarize what has already been said on this thread:

Installation on 32 and 64 bit: Save the install file from the website to your computer's hard drive. Find the icon located on your hard drive, it should be called "CastleLinkInstall3.XX". Right click on the icon and choose "Run as administrator" and it should install just fine.

Vista 32 bit compatibility: Works with Castle Link and Mamba Max. Meaning it works on every product that we offer that is Castle Link compatible, including the Mamba Max.

Vista 64 bit compatibility: Works with the Castle link but NOT the Mamba Max. Unfortunately we have been unable to find a solution for getting the Mamba Max driver to work on 64 bit. But products like the Monster, Sidewinder, 1/18th controllers, BEC etc. will work just fine; the Mamba Max is only controller that will not work with 64 bit.

Hope that helps clear up the waters a bit. If you have any questions or problems with Castle Link installation on Vista, please give us a call in Tech Support, we'll be happy to help.

If you really want to get the MM working on a vista 64 machine you could always build a Virtual machine running 32bit windows. Not a simple youlution but it would work for those that want to take a 64bit laptop to the track.

Savage: FLM Conversion, 6s, MMM, CC 1520.
Mini-T Pro: Micro Pro 6800kv, Lipo, HS-81mg, Dirt Hawgs
M18MT: Quark 33A, Y22S 6000kv, FP 2s Lipo
LRP S8-BX: RC-M Conversion, Tekin RX8 B1600KV, 6S.

I have just tried this and it work for me. Have a new computer with Vista, couldn't get Castle link loaded for days. Read only the first post and followed his instructions and the program installed fine. I'll report back after I do some more testing.
