Looking for ideas, suggestions, etc... -
09.25.2008, 11:15 PM
Ok, I am in a project mood, so figured that I would ask if anyone has any ideas...
I am currently making and testing a few items:
- Adapter kit to mount Losi LST diffs/cases in maxx bulkheads
- 1/8 scale center diff for the new emaxx/erevo
- Plastic spur for the Crt.5
I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for other desireable parts, or mods that may benefit many users?
I have a few different vehicles that I can use to test and design. Emaxx, Erevo, Lst, Savage, and the good old electric pede. I can also test stuff for tmaxx and revo, as I have those as well. Seems like the monster trucks offer more challenges to convert than a buggy/truggy so I figured that I would focus on them.
Feel free to throw up ideas, someone earlier said that I should try to fit the Lst diffs/cases in a revo bulkhead. I will give it a try and see if it is feasable.
I have access to a machinist and will contemplate proto-typing parts if there is sufficient demand. I am also in the process of purchasing a lathe so that I can do some of it myself.

What really needs to be developed is a good way to mount a MMM in place of an evx-2 esc on the E-REVO and E-MAXX trucks. Joelling, I think, had a nice design but something needs to be readily available or at least can be made if asked for one. I for one would def buy one if it is well designed.

I already did this on my Erevo. Pretty simple. I took a piece of kydex (any plastic over 1/8" thick should do) and cut a square out that was wide enough to fit over the little pad and screw holes that the evx sits on. I then cut a channel in the foam that is stuck to the chassis. I made the channel run front to back, and left it wide enough to get a decent sized zip tie in it. Then I screwed the plate over it with some small button head m3 screws. Used some servo tape to stick the MMM to the plate, and then ziptied over the top of the MMM to hold it tight. It has some cushoin afforded by the foam and servo tape, and the zip tie keeps it in place. If you use the correct holes on the erevo chassis you can get the screws out without removing the esc. I could whip up a few plates and a picture manual, but it is pretty easy to do...

I think one other thing that we really need is a good slipper system that can be used on multiple vehicle types, now that Strobe is no longer in business. For my personal needs, I'd like to be able to put the new Traxxas slipper on the old style emaxx tranny's. But I'm sure there are other manufactures slippers that I havent seen that might work as well.
Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

You can, just take the top shaft out of the new emaxx tranny, and presto!
Or something like that, its a simple mod to do for like 20 bucks

I am basically doing this with my 1/8 scale diff for the new emaxx / erevo trans. Or do you want an exposed gear style slipperential like Mike used to make? I will stick to what I am doing, don't want to make something that is already in the works! Plus the slipperential is one of Mike's designs, and I am not into copying...

Honestly, the revo spec slipper is the best I have seen. I was one of the first to put the revo slipper on the old emaxx tranny, but I did it with the gmaxx single speed and a nitro revo input shaft. I could give the new emaxx shaft a try in the old emaxx 2 speed tranny and see how that works. I have all of the parts. I will give it a try and report back.

Which receiver and esc, and for what vehicle? I do not have an x-ray, but would an ofna 2 speed out of the gtp fit in the xray? What size bearings and output shafts does the xray center diff have? can you post a link to an online manual?

The dude is working on one right now. Not sure if you have seen it. It is a bit strange as it uses a disk in a mount that acts as an excentric to adjust gear mesh by turning the motor. I am sure that I could come up with something similar to Mike's revo design mount, and maybe have the Monster himself produce and sell it. Hell, he may already have something in the works, I will have to email him...

receiver is Futuba PCM 1024, and the ESC is MGM 16018...about the manual, i'll try to post the link for you, but if you didn't hear from me with a day or two, i guess the best place to look at is the Xray Web Site under manual (i believe they got the manual for the xt8), thanks alot!
P.S. i just checked and seems like you'll have to go to their site and look under downloads...

Ok, a good general purpose receiver box is the old nitro tmaxx box, howver the new erevo box looks great and it sealed. May not fit a big receiver though. I do have an mgm esc, and will look at it a bit to see how to mount it...
I will look into the xray 2 speed too.
