MMM: What you need to know.

Here is a general knowledge thread for the Castle Creations Mamba Monster.

There have been some rocks and potholes along the way but the current generation of MMM's have it all figured out. All the credit for this thread goes to you guys- and the folks over at Castle Creations. This is just a compilation of Information.

What not to do:
-Do not attempt to run your monster over 6s lipo or 25.2v input voltage
-Do not solder to the main board of the controller- it voids the warranty
-Do not remove your monsters case with the aid of a large screwdriver, it will
damage the board.

What we are trying to prevent is the fact that people are jamming screwdrivers into the slots on the case and breaking parts off the circuit boards, and ripping wires off circuit boards trying to "fix" issues that don't even exist. 80% of the V3 failures we have seen here at Castle on the V3s have been people who are freaked out about WHAT THEY HAVE READ HERE and have decided to implement a "fix" (for something which isn't a problem) and ended up damaging the boards.



If you are careful and open the case correctly, we don't have a problem with it. But we are reserving the right to DENY fixing under warranty if you are careless and damage the board by jamming a screwdriver into the case slots and destroy parts.

AGAIN, and I have said this like FIVE TIMES already -- there is no problem with the bullets and the heat sink. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BULLETS and the HEAT SINK. DO I NEED TO SAY IT AGAIN???

AND so far we haven't seen any problem with the fan and wires on the new case either -- not a SINGLE case of wires even rubbing in the new cases-- but we have had 8 people destroy Monsters trying to "fix" the fan wire "problem" because of what they have read here in this forum.

SO -- don't open your case just 'cause you want to. You might break something.

Things to remember
-Listen to Patrick, Bernie or anyone else from castle creations-they know the controller's better then we do- THEY ARE RIGHT.
-The bullet connectors touching the heatsink will not cause a problem.

-The MMM v3 has an updated case design that protects the Bec's switching coil from impact.
-The latest firmware(11/5/08) is 1.20, If you havent done so- update it now.
-If you dont mind buying multiple new esc's, Dont tamper on the board of the MMM- its just not worth it- 10 bucks to pay for shipping on your current one- or $165 for a new controller when they tell you that they wont fixit.



Castle Creations 1/8th scale "Neu" motors
-These motors are based off Steve Neu's 15xx series, specifically the 1512 and 1515.
-These motors are all wound in a 1y configuration (mainly for the slightly increased efficiency of Y vs D wind)
-1512 1y= 2650kv
-1515 1y= 2200kv
-These motors are made of high quality materials and are manufactured with a very high standard in mind(its obvious when have a motor in hand)

- These Motors feature:
-Kevlar wrapped, Neodymium multipole rotors(balanced)
-Hand wound Stators
-One sexy looking can
-Bolt on front and rear endbells
-5x14mm shaft bearings
-7 1/2" motor leads with Castle Creations 6.5mm bullet connectors
- According to Castle, they will be available in the traditional green/black or Traxxas' black.
-Main case of the motor is green or black ad the fins have been polished.(looks like a 600xl on steroids)

I do disagree on some of it myself. But in general it should be of some use to most people. Good idea for the 1.23 people that use the SEARCH function. We need a sticky about that too...

Well, it didn't help me, and I still disagree on some points, but it's good for the less technically inclined.

BTW: I added a little extra details about why Y winds were chosed for CC motors...

Patrick said that they are working on another motor (1600KV, I think) that will be about a 1518 size. They adjust the length of the motor for KV, which is nice. Maybe not necessary for your post since it hasn't been confirmed that it is actually coming out, just thought I should mention--and I'm buying one if they do release it.

hey guys, will the bolt pattern and bolt size on the cc neus be the same as the original neus ?

i am asking because i am buying a motor mount that accepts nue 1515 bolt pattern and size, will it work with cc nue motors ?

CC Neu motors use the same bolt pattern as a 36mm motor, so yes.

just to be super super sure , so it will work with Neu 1515 size motor with a 25mm diameter 4 bolt circle with M3 countersink screws ?

It will fit in place where any other standard motor would- only thing to watch is the can diameter.
