need some 1/8 buggy advise for conversion or buy an 8ight-e - RC-Monster Forums

i'm seriously thinking about a brushless conversion for an 1/8 buggy. i don't know what to get though.

I want a buggy that will have a good supply of parts so i don't have to look all over for them....so something brand name.

I was thinking about the 8ight-e. can i drop a MMM in that with a neu 1512 or 1515 with no motor mount modification? i could just take the xelerion system out of it and ebay it as i wanna run it on 6S.

what about the novak conversions? they say their made for the novak systems, but don't they have the same diameter for screws everyone else does? so would a novak conversion work for a neu setup too?

I've gotten bitten by the 4wd bug, and i'm anxious to get an education on the ways of the buggy. Any opinions and advise is greatly appreciated.

I run an 8ight-e buggy and it's awesome.. I went w/ the Medusa 36x60mm 2000kv w/ a MMM esc on 4s lipo and it smokes... If you want to save a few bucks vs going w/ a Neu don't be afraid, Medusa are awesome motors. I opted for the Tekno conversion though as it allowed for standard brakes and includes their elektri-clutch.

Pretty nice setup iMO, but I'm sure the straight up losi conversion is good too.

PS stay away from the 1515 in these buggies.. too much weight and more than what is needed. Truggy on the other hand the 1515 is perfect, or the medusa 70mm motors.

I love my 1515 on my R2 Matrix buggy with 5S lipo 5000mah is 8.80lbs. The 1512 would have saved me only .1lbs and I don't worry about gearing with a 1515 plus amp draw is low since the 1515 barely breaks 90 degs after a full pack running 46/20 gearing.

The novak conversion will only work with the novak motors, as the motor clamp replaces the center ring of the motor.

If I did another buggy i would do a hyper9... I have had a losi and I do not think it is a well made as my hyper8... Ofna make a good buggy. The HB D8 seems to be the hot setup right now. I may get one, but I do not race so it is not my favorite type of chassis to bash. Buggys are super stable and great if you need something to run fast!

i got a new losi 8ight buggy roller off of ebay and bought the losi conversion at impakt. i think i'm gonna try the 1515 in the 8ight. i'm not gonna be track running it, just doing speed runs out in front of my house.

Go w/ the castle system.. 2650 or what ever is designed for 1:8 buggy and a ton cheaper :)

i have an extra 2200 1y laying around so i'll try that first but im also thinking of the medusa motors as another option.

btw, I was reading the article on the E-conversion in the march issue of x-treme rc cars and it listed the set-up time as 12 HOURS?! is that really true? i can't imagine why it would take that long....can anyone who did a conversion chime in?

I think 5s is ideal in truggy if you think you want to make it through a 20min main, and the 1y even geared down maybe too much to handle on 5s lipo. I like my Neu 2.5d better on that voltage.. but a 1700-1800kv Neu or Medusa would do the job nice. You can run the 1y nice on the track w/ 4s lipo, but you will need some 6k or better packs to complete a 20min a-main w/o a swap.

How long it takes to install depends on the installer.. I'd say 3hrs maybe 4 tops when I did my conversion... as far as tuning the suspension and other items, that is just ongoing.

well, i got it converted and everything installed. there was only one thing i really didn't like about the conversion kit. the motor mount. the way they have it, it really limits the size of the pinion gear you can use. I like tons and tons of speed so i basically cut the front of the mount in half. that mount serves no purpose being so thick and after i cut it down and polished it up, i was able to get a 24t gear on it. So being geared 45/24 it was time to take it for a spin.

HOLY S#!t the thing is FAST on 6S. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time i was driving it. it handles unbelieveably and is incredibly smooth. so i got another one off ebay for $279 and i'm gonna convert that one too. but this time i got Monster Mike's mount. his looks like it was made to handle larger pinions.
