1515 1y chinese cc neu motor vrs real american made neu motor -
07.08.2009, 02:52 PM
This has probably been touched on but is there a difference in power output between the 2. I know there is some diferences on how they are built but is one motor considerably better made or better materials than the other or last longer or possibly more efficient. I am getting one or the other for my silverback build but not sure which one yet. If I get a new traxxas one off ebay I wonder if it would still be under warranty.

there is only a slight amount of difference between the two, but not enough to offset the cost difference.
just get the cc neu.
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

The motors have 12 slot stators and 4 pole rotors. The shaft diameter is 5 mm and is 0.75” long. The motors weigh about 10-12 oz depending on type.
The first two numbers of a Neu motor designate the diameter. For example the 1500 series has a 15mm rotor.
The second two numbers denotes the rotor length. For example xx09, xx12, and xx15. Larger numbers means a longer rotor. A longer rotor generates more torque.
The third two numbers usually are the number of turns. For example 1.5, 1, and 2.5 The higher number the more turns.
The next letter d/y is the coil configuration: d = delta or triangle. y = wye or star.
A d coil configuration is a motor that has 1.73 times higher kv and 1.73 times less torque than a y motor configuration with the same turns. For example a 1515/1d has 4100kv and a 1515/1y has 2200kv. A motor with windings in delta configuration gives low torque at low rpm, but can give higher top rpm. Wye configuration gives high torque at low rpm, but not as high top rpm.
The last letter f/s is the type of can: f = finned. s = smooth can

-Laminations M19 non-oriented magnetic steel Japan
-Magnets Same as Neu – China N38UH magnet
-Shaft material Stainless - USA
-Case T6061 – China
-US source 10 gauge silicone insulated wire

The 15xx Neu has 18mm dia. rotor.

Yea Brian pointed out that it is the rotor/stator? not the can.

My cc 2200 ran much hotter than my neu motor. cc 2200 consistantly ran ~140 deg F
My T8 2050 motor barely breaks 100 deg F

Rotor is the magnet. 15xx doesn't refer to the magnet it means 1.5" stator diametre.
I don't think the holes in the neu's can are the temp difference between neu and cc motors. My Tekno 1515 1y (no holes in can) doesn't run noticeably different in temp on 4s, compared to my standard neu 1515 2.5d on 5s. Same car, about 1000rpm difference, same gearing, same race tracks, same type of cells.

Is tekno neu square motor made by neu or i is it like cc neu, only neu design? I think of square 1515 1y tekno neu or just 1515 1y neu - the firs one is cheaper, so what is your idea?

Sorry, I measued again last night, the CC Neu's rotor dia. is 19mm. 1mm thicker than the original Neu, as I remember we've discussed somewhere in this forum.

I'd go for the castle Neu aswell- the power output difference & efficiency varience is minor at best, barely noticeable during normal use.

Yeah my vote is for the CC Neu considering the price difference and the fact that the CC Neu is alittle better suited to ground use.

I don't know why Neu hasn't made geniune Neu's that are terrain specific like the CC models. CC just has to come out with a 1500 - 1700Kv. unit for 5-6s lipo. IMO, they should never have had the 2650Kv... kinda useless for most of us, even buggies.

i've got 2 neu 1515 1y's and 2 castle neu 2200's and i can say categorically the 1515 1y's run a good 20 degrees cooler on a consistant basis. the power/speed is identical imo

DwightSchrute, good point. This should be noted by everyone, that just a few point in efficiency percentile will make a drastic difference in running temperatures... even though they have seemingly the same power.
