Yes, me again, this time, it's my turn to suffer.

This morning, my computer was rockin, being it's usual.
Nothing was bogging it down or anything...

But anyways, here's my issue.

When I first got home, put my backpack down, turned my powersurge on, then turned the computer on. With one SATA (500GB - Master); and one IDE (yes, IDE), 250GB (Slave)

It does it's usual thing, passes POST, and all, until it reaches the spash screen of XP (The bar loading thingymajig), after what seems to be like it'd usually be done, it goes black, just like usual, and it's SUPPOSED to go into the welcome screen... But, it turns black, and just restarts.

I know it's not my GPU, LAN Card, or my Sound card, or my RAM.

Already took em out, put new ram in, still same thing, and I think it's my boot configs.

Any advice? I was thinking about going into safemode, (which does the same thing, except, it just shows the drivers, and then just restarts), find out what driver it's sticking on, and replacing that file by hand, but that sounds really tedious, and would rather get somebody's else's advice before I do so.

I'm trying to keep the format, and the reinstall of XP (Since I have two partitions, 1 for data, and 1 for my OS....), as I did this before, and was a huge pain to have to deal with re-installing all the applications so the registries worked, so I just formatted then, but that was when I didn't have much information on the computer, I do now.

Help!

i fix this issue by re-installing winDOHs.
fixed many issues exactly like this by doing that. get good pay from it too

but if that isnt the case it could possibly be heat related as the cpu is beginning to come under load.
i'm assuming it's either a 478 or 775?

dun worry. i run a 40gb IDE and a 160gb SATA so dont feel bad

my pc is rockin with a 3.4ghz dual core and 2gb of ram. perdy good for a machine made up of bits that people threw out!! never spent a cent on it!!

I agree with Shaun. Check your cpu fan/speed if you haven"t already.

yes and no... it sounds like a registry prob... you can try an xp repair if you have the cd.. just put it in the drive and boot off of it... if it passes post its not going to be a hardware prob.(cpu fan)... it should be a simple fix if you have the cd... if not pm me you email and i can send you the necessary files to create the iso boot cd.

If I insert the XP CD, it will pass POST, but even if I try loading the Windows, with the CD in, it will still do what it does.

btw, it's a:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
ECS Mobo (Don't know model)
2x2GB Corsair 800mhz RAM

umm not sure on your mobo but its prob f8 for the boot setup... just click on the drive that the cd is in.... your not loading windows... it should go to the repair section.

If I boot off CD, it'll take me to the XP screen, did you want me to get into recovery console?

i think what justin is trying to say is that you have to set the CD drive as the master boot device and the HDD as the secondary.
so when it attempts to boot it will go for the CD first and that will take you to a blue, DOS like screen with a few options like repair or install etc.

you know how to change the master boot device in BIOS don't you?

I had an issue very similar to what your issue is.
Mine was a bad power supply that half fried my mother board and CPU.
I hope it is not the case.

Boot to the Xp Disc and use the repair function and see if that helps. If it crashes during that, you have a hardware failure, likely either mobo or power supply.

This is a thread jack, no body move!

What would you pc guys say is the issue when the computer refuses to boots up past the 'post'? stage; just when you expect the little reassuring beep after a few seconds, the pc just shuts down- fans all working fine, no other hardware issues (ram, hdd, cpu etc all fine)? When I built my new pc the original 2 mother boards had to be replaced after only a few days each time, until I bought an updated version of the mobo which has been fine ever since....

Remove all hardware accessories except mobo, PSU, video card *if needed* and boot HDD then try again. If it still continues to power down, swap out the PSU. If that doesn't fix it, failing mobo.

No beep - Possibly, power supply, system board problem, disconnected cpu, or disconnected speaker

Could it be that you both have bad mobos.
