Losi 8ight-t race roller, conversion kit advice - 12.27.2009, 11:18 PM

Hey guys, I am currently looking at a used 8ight-t v1.0 roller, but I am not sure what conversion kit is the best to use? I heard that losi makes a kit, but I havn't been able to find it yet. The other option is the tekno-rc kit but it comes with some sort of clutch set up? Sounds like more crap to go wrong to me.

The other thing I am wondering, how much abuse will the losi's diffs hold up too? What kind of gearing should I use, using 6s lipo? I know 5s is probably the way to go but all I am set up for right now is 6s so I will try it.

Thanks for any help guys, and sorry for the newbish questions.

There is noone that can help me out? I do apologize for the newb questions but I have no idea where to start with gearing, and I am not sure which conversion would be better?

Well I have both the 8ight and the 8ight-t, The buggy has the losi conversion, Which is nice but the mount isn't the greatest, You can't really have a range in gearing, The best IMO is the losi kit with the RCM mount. If you shim the diffs right you really shouldn't have that much of a problem if you don't try to do standing backflips on the street. 6s is fine and is actually better than 5s when geared the same, Everything will run smoother and cooler.

For gearing I would use BrianGs calc, Wit the 8ight-t I would say it will come with about a 48t spur gear and to gear for about 40 or so on 6s with a 2200kv~ would be 12-13t, But again this all depends on your motor and tires. What motor are you planning on running?

mmm/2200 combo. I will probably gear it for more than 40mph, as it is going to be a basher/bmx track queen. I like speed haha.

Soo, rcm motor mount with the losi battery tray? Thing about the losi battery tray is it's "only good for up to 5s" lipo. I don't want to have to dink around trying to find longer straps for it.

I would stick to around 40-45 for a long bash session otherwise your going to be looking at temps alot to make sure you don't fry anything.

What batterys are you going to be running? I know I can fit my 6s turnigy 5000mah 30c's in there no problem.

Right now I have two 3s 30c turnigy's, bit of a pain compared to a single 6s but that's the way she goes.

Just my thinking, but a cc 2200 should have no problem toting a fairly light truggy around at over 40mph? The motor in my flux stays COOL all the time, esc gets warm of course but not dangerously.

I more just need a starting point with gearing, I am going to order several pinions but just needed a ballpark guess. Brians calculator is very handy, thanks for the link!
