xcelorin systems any good? -
05.18.2010, 06:28 PM
Anybody have any experience with the xcelorin 1/8 scale brushless systems? Just wondering if they're worth it or should I just stick with the MMM system. My next project is a LST2 conversion & trying to see the pros & cons of both systems.

From what I gather, the esc is crap, but the motor is quite good. On balance, I'd say stick with the MMM

Losi ESC's are Junk, The motors are better but still have doubt.
Go with Castle or Tekin Systems, they can both be found here in the RCM store.
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

+1
both castle and tekin also have awesome customer service just in case something goes wrong.
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

ESCs are a piece of crap. I have the losi xcelorin 2100kv motor and mamba monster esc on my 8ight conversion. It runs extremely smooth, cool and quiet.

I use to run the Losi ESC. Worked great untill I updated the firmware and the majic smoke came out.
For ESC's stick w/Tekin/Castle.

In Europe the losi motor has the reputation to toast
The ESC last meanly ~ 10 runs ^^^
The customer service often result in a "Your fault, you inverted polarities"
Just go for a Castle ;)

MBX5T Prospec MMv3 NEU-CC 1520/1Y 6S "Overkill Flying machine" ;)

Thanks for all your replies, so that settles it then stay away from Xcelorin. Now to decide, MMM or Tekin RX8....decisions, decisions.

that's nonsense... sorry. I've been driving a xcelorin 1700kv on 5s, it's an excellent motor, with lots of torque. You just have to keep the motor sealed, to avoid sand getting inside, that kills the kevlar on the magnets. I have now a Medusa, and I think medusa isn't any better at all:

but, the 1:10 electronics seem to be crap.

Okay I'm going with MMM but I do want to use the new 1518 1Y motor, I think it would be better for the LST 2 than the 2200kv one, any thoughts?

The 2200 is a fine motor for the truck on 4s, I ran mine on 4s for well over a year and no heat problems and it would yank the front wheels off the ground in a heartbeat.
If you want to run 5s or 6s then the 1518 or 1520 would be the wiser choices.
