Ofna Hyper Mini Ste On Road -
05.26.2010, 06:35 PM
Just bought my second hyper mini a few days ago after selling my original one a few months ago. This is by far 1 of my favorite mini's i have ever used. I pretty much sold a bunch of stuff off to buy a savage flux for strictly bashing and a few friends now started running onroad on a huge cement oval. I was on a budget so i grabbed another hyper mini since everyone isnt so competitive. So far i threw a mamba max and 7700kv castle motor i had laying around. On 2s it's pretty quick , id say prob. in the high 50mph range. I threw some stiffer springs on made by integy , they are actually slash rear's all around even in the front. So far at this onroad track people come trying to run all sorts of vehicles such as a slash 4x4 , serpent , fg onroad car , hpi vorza and iv seen a jato also. For now i only have the stock tires and some offroad tires but i may grab some slicks for it soon. If anyone has any reccomendations please chime in. Also i am looking for a body for this thing if anyone has one forsale - Thanks

I don't have a hyper mini, but I do have the crt.5. Almost the same thing. For onroad use, I mount my own foam tires. I use foam donuts from rc4less and newera. I used the 7400kv B50 hacker past Sunday on 4s A123. Plenty fast.
Here's a pick of the tires I made over the weekend mounted on Traxxas wheels. As you can see, they have a lot of meat. For even higher speeds, I like the 6 layer silver foam donuts from rc4less.

those tires look perfect for some onroad action , i was thinking of grabbing the rcmonster 12mm to 17mm adapters for it and then buying some 1/8th size slicks or foams on ebay. A few friends have been using some 1/8th size slicks that are like $15 shipped on ebay and they get some good results. What speed control is that ? 4s is crazy for this. What kind of speeds do you think you are reaching?

Link?
I've tried some of the tires from Supra Sales and they have been decent, but the slicks they have are $23 shipped.

Do you use a tire truer to make these? Anything special needed? What specifically are those traxxas rims. I also have a crt.5 just sitting collecting dust..yours may inspire me to do the same

I do use a tire truer for these. I use contact cement to clue them. I cut the inner rim lip off with a razor and sand them down a bit for the clue to catch onto something. I coat both inner foam donut and wheel. Let airdry a bit and then coat both donut and wheel again to act as lubricant and activator. Just squeez the donunt in place and dry overnite. Next day I just cut them down on the truer or drillpress.
The rims are Traxxas Rear Wheel Chrome Nitro Rustler.

I buy the foam donuts from RC4Less and mount them to the rims, where I cut the second inner lip off. Sand the rims a bit on the truer and mount the donuts with regular contact cement. I've use donuts from neweramodels and they don't last too long.

Speed wise, I would say close to 70mph. I tried using the jaco ones, but they are just too tall for the short chassis. I'm happy with near 60mph though. Parts last longer. I'm betting that with Mike's extended chassis, more speed is easily achieved.
I used suprasales 1/8 foams and the cheapo slicks. Neither are good for high speeds. My son blew a few last Sunday.
That is the Tekin RX8 speed control that I use. At times I use Lutach speed control.

a few friends use the ones from supra sales on ebay , my friend actually use's them on his hpi vorza 1/8th buggy and they work great. They were $15 with free shipping i guess he raised the prices now and charges shipping , still not a bad deal for 4 of them. Do you think id be ok with the rc monster 12mm to 17mm adapters that just go right onto the existing hex or should i just pick up a set of slash rear 17mm adapters , i think the ones for the slash rear may fit the hyper mini , not 100% sure though. Thanks

Prices are not bad, but they are no good for really high speeds. I'm clueless about the adapters as I never looked into them.

@justpassedu, 1 LiPo with those stock tires and they will have a nice bald section in the middle :) Try the Slash rear hexes and let us know if it works. Been planning on buying Mikes kit as well but it's quite expensive (for me atm).
@ snellemin, I love your tires and motor!!

Nard Cox due to the stiff springs and motor being on the opposite side the dual lipo's evens out the weight for me , i know the stock tires will go quick as they did on the 1st hyper mini i owned. As for the adapters on my 1st hyper mini i ran a set of flm prototype ones and i really did not like the design at all. I remember someone saying i can use slash 17mm adapter from the rear but i am not 100% sure on it and i dont want to spend the money unless i know it's going to work. The rc monster ones are nice but a lil pricey so like you i am trying to look for a cheaper solution. I guess ill have to do some research. Also anyone have a spair body that fits that they would like to sell?
