6L 8 cells rustler what gearing? - 09.13.2007, 05:30 PM

A rustler with stock tires, an MM controller and 8 cells, the 7700 that came with the MM gets too hot for me and I have a 6L just sitting on a shelf. I'd appreciate any info, whether or not to swap the motors, and if so, what gearing. Thanks rcm forum members!

For mine I used 16/84, altho I did have M2ks on. Any higher gearing did not produce any extra spd for me.

For reg tires I think I used 18/84, but its been so long I dont remem.

I would convert over to jato spurs and use 58/14 gearing. Std jato spur will mount up if you have the xl5 slipper and get pinions from mike.

The revo gear will fir but will be too small and require a tiny pinion. An Associated Monster GT spur will fit with slight modification and is mod 1, 52 teeth. This helps cause the largest revo spur is 40 tooth and will cause gearing issues, think 5-8 tooth pinion to get anywhere near correct for the rustler. To mod the MGT spur the center hole must be opened up to accept the bearing from the slipper. I also drill out three of the smaller holes to the same size as the mounting bosses on the slipper so that the spur will sit flush with the slipper. This may sound difficult but is really clear when you have the gear next to the slipper. Kimbrough makes different sized spurs for the MGT and that will help with gearing.
