Yes, it is!!!

I raced the buggy Sat. night. TQ'd and won the main. It is geared 13/48 and I am running 4s lipo. First qualifier I ran a Poly RC 3700 for 2 hot practice laps and 5 min.s; finished 2nd and used 1569mah. Second qualifier I ran a firefox 3700 for 1 lazy practice lap and 5 min.: TQ'd and used over 1900mah of battery. Main I ran a Enermax 5000, 1 hot lap, 5 min. main, Won and used about 1650mah of juice. Temps were consistently 110-motor, 105-Quark(without Hautz's heatsink), and 90-battery except for the crappy firefox which was down to 115 from it's normal 135 range. It wieghs in somewhere between 8.5 and 9 lbs depending on which battery I have in it but was generaly well behaved and probably had 3-5 m.p.h. more than the fastest nitro @ the track. Also, it is super smoooooth compared to the Truggy.

I use the same motor / battery voltage setup in the car i ran at the Kyosho Challenenge... very good setup for a buggy in my opinion.

Very nice. I'm still debating whether or not to convert my 8ight. Dont know if I want to drop the $$$ for LiPo and I think NiMh would be too heavy.

I have not(except for about two minutes in the driveway). Tomorrow's races will be the first runs on it. I am confident it will perform admirably. I have been runin' the Neu and Quark in an 8T for about 9 months already.

I don't see why everybody complains about the cost. You can get a set of LiPos as cheap or cheaper than a set of NiMH...

You also have to factor in the new hardware needed for charging/balancing and mounting & protecting the Lipo's on the chassis as well as the learning curve for the new batt chemistry as not to destroy your new investments.
Lipo's are not for folks who do not want to worry about low voltage cutoffs, discharge cutoffs, current ratings and thermal runaway .
My vote would be A123's for those types of users as the A123's are lighter than nimh's and are not as fragile/temperamental as Lipo's.

I'm just referring to the cost factor. Nobody mentioned the things that go with LiPo usage, like being cautious for one. Something that should be used either way...LiPo or not.

Cost is a relative term...
If you are converting to Lipo then you MUST take into account ALL the aspects of the new battery chemistry.

If you are strictly referring to a monetary setback then you have to also take into account the additional monetary setback for the additional hardware needed to support the new battery chemistry i.e. charger's, lvc's, balancer's etc.

to get nimh battery packs to be as expensive as lipos you will need to get some QUALITY batteries.

he may be talking about some cheap gp3300s or something. you can get some nice little 14 cell nimh packs for less than 100 bucks.

compared to lipos that are around 140 for the cheepest 4 cell pack.
