How big is your wire? - 11.28.2008, 04:28 PM

just a pic of the wire we are using on our current project in san francisco. its a 115kv (115,000 volts) underground transmission line. wieghs about 35 lbs. per foot and costs $1 M per reel (~1850ft per reel). center conductor is 1 million mcm compact annular stranded. it has a lead jacket and 4 fiber optic cables in it as well(outer layers).

we use cadmium welds to connect this wire, smaller cable uses 200-600 amp componets with pressed connections

it is about wire, just not the stuff that makes our toys go. instead it makes your life and everything connected to it go. ie anything that used ac current.

We use a similar size Cord for our power on cable for the airplanes in the factory. 440 I beleive it is. Of course, most of the size on ours is shielding since they are use above ground as an extension cord.

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

you mean 480? that is a nasty voltage, any kind of fault and it sees it as load and dumps more amperage to the fault. i have seen a panel in a cinderblock wall that blew up on 480 and it melted the whole wall! you guys must be runnin some SERIOUS equip of that stuff. usually cnc or similar equip.
