Cajun, yes, you are going to need a ubec OR an RX pack. To disable the BEC in the MM just pull the little tab on the connector upward that goes into the RX and remove the red wire. I pulled mine and heat shrinked it back so if I ever need it (not likely) I can. Pretty simple.

So you take the lead from the ESC that goes into the throttle slot on the RX and diconnect the red (power) wire and plug it back into the RX, then add the UBEC in you power loop from your bateries and plug it into the slot on the RX labeled batt, right?

Will I need a capacitor in the system?

You don't need a capacitor. It certainly will not hurt to use one, but it could help with the burst current servos might pull, as well as help to filter any small AC ripple from the switching action making theoutput more like pure DC.

Which one would you recommend using with the MM & 8XL set up? I want this to be as smooth as possible and avoid any glitches from the start.

You are talking about the little capacitor to use with a UBEC right? If so, it's not really dependant on the controller/motor. I usually use a 1,000uF 10v cap and solder a servo plug on the end so I can plug it into the receiver. Any size cap will work that is at or over 10v. Capacitance values 1,000uF, 2,200uF, 3,300uF, or 4,700uF are decent values to use for this.

Yep, that's the one. Where do you find them? Radio Shack or do RC retailers have them? I don't recall seeing them anyplace for sale except for Novak.

Yeah, that would work. Since I usually have some extra servo plugs and caps laying around, I just make my own. Something like this from RadioShack would work fine, just watch the plarity when you make the leads...

For those without an electronics parts bin, using a pre-built setup like that would probably be the easiest. :)

Yeah, that's probably the route I'll go. I don't have any capacitors laying around the house and for 6 bucks, it's worth it to not have deal with soldering it together.
