Should a 10xl on 5s run cooler that a 9xl on 4s? - 06.18.2008, 07:26 PM

I was contemplating getting a 10xl to run on 5s in my buggy. From what I have read, the motor should run cooler than the 9xl on 4s set up.... right?

seems like the 9xl on 4s would run cooler but im just guessing. im also guessing the 9xl would be pretty slow vs the 10xl on 5s.

I used to run the 10xl on 5s in my revo, and it ran pretty cool. I never really had to worry about heat, but I have never ran the 9xl on 4s.

If they're geared for the same top speed, I would think the 10xl 5s would be quite a bit more efficient than the 9xl on 4s, resulting in lower temps. That's just my gut feeling though, since I've never ran a 10xl before. My 9xl on 4s runs too warm for my taste, and I've been thinking along the same lines as you.

IMO the xl motors are the least worry some part of my conversion...cheap enough so if I blow one up it will not cost me a fortune to replace. Seeing as I only race w/friends, not competitively, I do not need a $ 230- motor. With that being said, I do want them to last and I figure for a small track that I race on, a 10xl on 5s will be fun and should run pretty cool.

if it's geared the same.. the 9XL on 4S will run a bit cooler.. but both setups would run cool by the way..

I'm going to do some testing with different 2 pole motors to see how they do temp wise. I'll be getting 2 new motors soon. One has a Kv of 1660 (10XL) and the other is 1845 (9XL).

if geared for the same topspeed the 10xl on 5s would be more effiecent and run cooler than a 9xl on 4s...... im waiting on griffinru for my mm to run my 10xl on 5s in my truggy.

I have realy bad experince with KD36-74-9XL motor http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6678

It supposed to run cooler that my Feigao 7XL and ran Hotter actualy then geared even lower speed than 7XL it cogged and Mamba Max heated up pretty fast too and on the end of run inner magnet came loose from shaft. Total runtime about 10min. Its waist of money

I will be trying a KD36-74-9XL in a few days. I do have the KD36-50-6S and it's been through hell. I tried it in my truggy one time and it pushed it. The only problem was the front end was loose. I'll report back to see if they do heat up like the one you have.
