Tekno Neu melted wires - 05.08.2009, 07:48 AM

Well I converted my revo to brushless some months ago and am running a finned 1515 1.5D 2700kv Tekno RC Neu along with an MMM on 4S.

I have probably had something like 20-30 packs in it with temps well within range. Last time I ran was in my backyard to make my dogs run a bit, so I was pushing it pretty hard cause I didn't want my 3 rottweilers to get ahold of my truck Everything was fine.

Today I ran like half a pack (2S2P Losi hardcase 5000mAh) in it cause I forgot to fully charge it, LVC pops on. And when I pop the body off I notice that my packs are really warmer than usual, nothing crazy tho. BUT my motor wires melted, all three of them on about 4-5cm!!! Motor was burning hot aswell. MMM didn't even have its fan on, was warm as usual...

Any idea what happened? Will I be fine if I just put some heatshrink back on the wires?

thx for any help

Probably a broken motor winding. Once one breaks (Even just a strand or 2 in one winding) the motor starts to get hot...fast. SOunds like that motor is done for. Send it in to Neu and see what they say.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Either a motor winding, or possibly your gear mesh slipped and tighten up causing problems as well...

Definitely sounds like the windings. Make sure your leads coming out of the motor don't bend and keep them as firm as possible so they don't flop around. Movement causes the windings to fray and eventually heat will build and the motor will fail.

sounds sorta like the same thing that happened to my tekno 1515 1y/f. it was temping fine after running two sets of 4s though it. take it out a few weeks later and I don't even finish off one set and the motor is cooking hot, like 180deg+

I take it home, hoping I didn't demag it. pulled the endbell off and pulled the rotor, which from the force needed to pull it out, I doubt it demag'd. Anyway further inspection revealed some blackening around the end of the heat shrink at the end of one of the phases. I cut it back a little and it looks like 1 or two of the wires shorted out.

Thanks for the pics and the info guys.

Sending back my Neu for warranty is kind of an issue for me since I am in the south pacific...

I'll try to pop out my end bell to check it out.

Send it to Neu, they should take care of it. Alternatively, you can send it to us and we can send it to Neu on your behalf. Sending directly to Neu will be a bit faster, but either way, let us know if we can help. I'm pretty sure it is a shorted motor and will need Neu's assistance to fix/repair/replace. Thanks.

Thanks Tekno, I'll be sure to mail it to Neu when I get a chance.
