Installed external antenna on React - 12.09.2010, 10:16 PM

Some of you know that my Star Trek phaser gun Nomadio only has an internal antenna. I wanted some more range with the Telemetry, so installed an external antenna. Worked better than expected and doubled the range.

Very nice, did you just use an aerial? or any amplifier?

Yea, just the antenna which I got from work. I had to unsolder the plug and solder on the new one.
The telemetry range double. I think the regular radio range is still the same as no amplifier is used.

Good solution!
I did this also on my 4PK.

I installed a d-link antenna with more gain than the original. When i turn on the radio the signal stop all the wifi around my house AHAHAH.

Anyone know if my Nomadio Sensor could benefit from an antenna upgrade? Am I looking at the dBi values they all seem to be rated with? Or would you need an actual amplifier along with the antenna? I don't have any range issues with the stock antenna, but a little more range couldn't hurt.

You might gain a bit. I went up the he network guys at work and asked them for an antenna that would help me gain some range with my telemetry. They gave me a antenna that is being used on the new commericial stuff and told me I should see some increase with just the antenna. The React just has a wire as antenna, so no gains build in. I have another set of wire and antenna if you would like to try it out.
