Dabid's BL Savage! - 03.15.2006, 11:29 AM

Hey, guess what? It's back, and it's got a body! I finally got around to painting the extended F-350 a simple scheme of True Blue Pearl backed with Indy Silver, came out pretty good, but it'll just get beaten to death anyway.

Onto the pics!

I hacked the rear of the body to give clearence for both the rear tires and shocks and stuff, as well as the wing mount. With it all pretty though, of course I had to take it out against my brother's crazy Pro 4 buggy, and had a bunch of fun.......and a massive crash.

Shock tower tried to come through body, and sparked on the body mount screw.......

Did some roof skidding....

New lowered body mounts using 1/4" alum. and the stock mounts just cut up and screwed through the alum. That screw sparked when the body buckled in the crash.

And last but not least, destroyed the wing mount.......

I didn't even get to take any pics of this truck while it was still pretty, so I kinda had to put it back together for these ones. One thing I didn't even take a pic of is how the crash loosened the motor and killed the zip ties holding the rx pack on. I think I'll see what kind of buggy wing mounts I can find in town, this one's done. The driving was pretty cool, but the 14 cells hadn't been charged for a while so I know it wasn't performing at full capability, I still think I was hitting 40 at least.

Looks pretty good. I wish you had got pics before the scratches and stuff.

Peace!

Because I killed the Ofna 9.5 wing mounts, I got some Xterminator ones on employee discount for $5 and bolted them up. I flipped the 1/8" alum. plate that the wing mount's screwed to so that now the wing is about 2" above the tailgate of the body, much better and I think it even gives it better performance. I work Friday, so I'll get a Proline white wing to replace the beat up Ofna yellow one, it'll work and match better.

I took it out for a run on some grass and was surprised as always by the power of "just" a 9L on 14 cells, but at the same time want more runtime.......I think what I really want is the 9xl though.

Yeah, it's weird to see a stock Savage now, mine is so different that they just don't look right!

Got a 9xl in it now, even on "just" 14 cells, it boogies darn good with twice as much torque as the 9L.

Nice to hear, Dabid. One of my 1950s, the 8 turn, has an almost identical KV as your 9XL, and I love it on 14 cells, too.

Nice thing on this motor (1950/8): Last weekend I had a marathon run on it, 4 sets of packs, back-to-back, and the motor temps were fine at the end. Without fan on the motor, but dual fan on the ESC. Would not dare this with one of my other motors.

How is your motor mounted? Got a picture with the body off?

That's the best shots I have of the new mount, basically a 1/4" alum. L bracket.

Adjusting the gearmesh must be a PITA, right?

Nah, the motor is about maxxed out to the right side and 15/47 is perfectly meshed then. Problem is, stupid pinion set screw loosens up, the gear slides back and strips the spur because not enough is contacting........need to figure that out.
