Slash 4x4 Night Run - 07.13.2012, 01:43 PM

Hey guys, thought I'd share a fairly simple little project. I lost my father in the spring, among the things I inherited was a Slash 4x4. The first thing I wanted to do was switch to Lipo, and of course the Velineon ESC didn't live past the first connection with 3S... So I put in my old Mamba Max, the one that powered my Maxx Mutation BTW..
3S is ideal for using the LED strips, so I added a JST lead for the LEDs.

I bought some Super Bright LED strips- http://www.valuehobby.com/accessorie...rip-white.html

I didn't want to change the look of the body too much, so I decided to put them on the inside. I cut the holes with a paper hole punch (where it would fit) and used a square file that was almost the same size as the square LED elements. I used GOOP to hold them, and the wires in place. After the GOOP dried I used Gorilla Tape over the back side. I also used the waterproof amber strips for side markers.

The Super Bright strips are 3X brighter than the standard strips, The 12 white LEDs on the front are enough to actually drive BY the light, not just using the lights for reference. Way more than I expected!

Here's some daytime shots, and a short video- http://vimeo.com/45616559

Oh man, I've been seeing LED's everywhere. I'm going to have to start brightening up my rides.

Looks good redshift! Should last well.

I got a few strips of the normally bright LEDs from HobbyKing for my quad copter. MAN these are bright! I can't imagine how the brighter set you have looks.

Thanks guys

So far the changes are the MM, BEC @6V, 4000KV G-Force motor and 3S 4000 mAH 40C packs. Gonna look into a swaybar kit and a better steering servo too.

Magman I wanted to keep the wiring simple and have the lights in the best protected areas on the body. I could always add a few dozen more lol...

Brain, I've only seen the super brights available in white and red so far, but they are insanely bright, even the video does not do them justice. Can't wait to see what they come up with to 'outshine' these!
