5ive-T conversion question?? - 08.14.2012, 10:05 AM

I have bought a 5ive-t and as much as I love driving this thing as a gasser, my wife hates it more than the others, my son's run as far as they can and I have a hard time not driving it out of the backyard to go for a walk, it's bloody heavy to carry across the road, lol.
I've been reading up all day thinking I'd like to try fitting a neu 22series motor in so I won't have heat issues on long bush walks and trying to run it on 8s through a castle XL2, will this motor be too much for the speedo? I'd hope to go this way as I just can't bring myself to spend $700 on a mgm speedo unless it's a given that the xl2 won't handle it. Thanks to jony nitro I now know the rcm mount will work so thats helped a tone, cheers and great build. One more question is what rpm range am I shooting for with this truck with my goal being decent speed and not sacrificing too much runtime. I wouldn't suppose anyone might know if the skopod mount with the rear support would fit a 2220-25?

If you are willing to keep mechanical brakes - you could run a 12s boat or airplane controller. The main advantage over the XL2 is you could run higher voltage/lower current with the proper motor kv and gearing - lower current being better for the esc. Eliminating motor braking should also lessen the stress on the esc.

If you decide to go with an airplane controller, you'll need a pistix to use your ground tx/rx (PM me if you end up needing a pistix - I have a couple laying around here somewhere).

this is just a brain fart but what if this truck was set up like a hpi e-savage with twin brushless motors, how'da recon that'd run, eg.2x 1717's although I'd need to do something about the 5mm shafts and pinions. Maybe a couple of leo 5698's 835kv's/910kv's, does anyone else think a set up like this will take the stress of breaking, I could run either 2x mamba monsters or 2x xl2's and use the dudes 1717 xxl motor mounts, one on each side of the spur, what'da you guys think?

Honestly I think 8s, xl2 and 2028 would do fine unless you want to run over 60mph all the time.
