My experience with the 7XL (540C version as well) was that it runs moderately hot if you don't rev it too high, it doesn't heat up from current per say, more the high rpm's. I got temps of 150 running quite hard when it was ~10c outside in the spring, obviously helping there. When it got hotter (~25c), the motor was getting to >175F, still within acceptable temps for Feigao, but too hot for my liking. That's why I am going Neu.... no pun intended. :p
The finned case for surely helps with cooling the motor, but the Feigao's will always, always run quite a bit hotter than Lehners & Neus.
BTW, just recently my end bell came off my 7XL, which have been a problem with them. Good thing a Neu is coming.
