Slayer or SC8..cost vs performance

If I were to pick one up to do a conversion on either, here's kind of how I think pricing would work out:

SC8
Vehicle $640
Sell Motor -$80
Sell Radio -$45
Motor Mount $50
Battery Tray $35
Motor - Already Have
ESC $150
Rx - Already Have
Servo - Use Stock Steering Servo or use one I already have
Pinion $12

Approx Total: $762

Slayer
Vehicle $380
Sell Motor -$80
Sell Radio -$20
Motor Mount $45
Battery Tray $20
ESC Mount $25
Motor - Already Have
ESC $150
Rx - Already Have
Servo - Use Stock Steering Servo or use one I already have
Pinion $12

Approx Total: $532

So, is the SC8 really worth $230 more in the long run? Consider that either would be used as a basher, or possibly an occasional run a track.

Or should I just scrap the idea for either and convert a RC8 to beat up?
