Aluminium is a very good heat conductor. If the fins are rather short and thick than very long and thin (like on a CPU cooler), adding the heatsink will help with cooling.

I would use whatever is lighter and lower CG. BTW, a hot motor dissipates heat better. If it doesn't get damaged, why run it cooler.
