May try that, but you reminded me of something i wonder if something called thread rebuilder would work.

JB Weld sticks metal to plastic nicely. Probably not a good idea if you ever want to remove it though. Try a flatspot on the shaft and some ca on the threads of the set screw. Not too much, a little should help the screw stay in there.
