With a very hot iron- get the heat in there quick to avoid heating the motor/esc internally. What kind of timing are you running? it might be worth setting it to soft to see if that makes a difference?...
Yea, I have a 220 watt weller soldering gun that i used, I think that should be enough. I have tried it on all the torque settings, and its currently on the lowest one.
Try running it on NiMH mode, just to see if that works?
But, I also think it might be your radio... I was using stock radio and i had the weirdest glitches ever, and like you said, I could recreate them.

Try to use race mode without safe mode.
I solve the same kind of problem with this setup.
It could be some kind of glitch to cause the problem.
However, I burn my esc with wrong polarity after I found the solution.
Pretty sad.
