Well that vinyl carbon fiber is taking a walk. I have a sheet of 1mm real red carbon fiber for the top plate that will be going on in it's place. the three pieces of shock towers are also being replaced by real carbon fiber. all the a arms are being replaced with custom aluminum arms, new steel control rods, new steel gearing and aluminum casing, new wheels (40 series) loosing the venom speed meter, the novak receiever is taking a walk for 2.4ghz fast tech., the battery source i was thinking about was Venoms 5400 11.1 lipo's, but I dont think I can run (2) 11.1 batteries on a brushless ESC, can I? or is it I would have to look for (2) 7.4v batteries? And that is the question of what motor to run and what ESC to run. like I said i was thinking about Novak since I had run it before. But Im intrested in the Neu Motors and have no ide which one to run and what esc to run with it?

Welcome T36! I saw this over on the chitownrc forum.

I think that 14lbs may be on the heavy side for a Mamba Max setup. You may need to go a little higher end on the esc to be able to run trouble free and keep the temps down. The novak system will struggle with a beast that heavy also. Probably not the way to go there either.

As for ESCs that are available now, the Quark 125B and the MGM 160/16 would be my recomendation for the heavier weight monster truck. I personally like the MGM better because you dont need a external BEC to run the high voltage 4s lipos. It has a built in switching BEC that will handle those voltages and that make setting the system up much simpler and cleaner.

4s lipo should be enough to get that thing around the track with authority. If you go with the Quark or MGM you could always throw in 5s just for some fun speed runs or crazy bashing power, but for the track 5s will probably be hard to drive with that much power. For a big truck like that I would look at at least 6000mah lipos if you want to make the 15 minute main. possibly even the 8000s depending on how you drive.

If you are looking for a Neu motor, the 1515-1Y on 4s would be a very nice fit on 4s with plenty of power for the track. I would look at getting the smooth can version if possible. It looks like you may have a tight fit and the Neu motors are already bigger in diameter than the titans you have in there now. The finned can version are even biigger in diameter and might have some interfearnce with the upper deck. I'm assuming you would mount it to the lower motor position to keep the weight as low as possible. With the Neu you wount need the extra cooling fins anyway. They run cool enough.

For a lower cost system, the Mamba Max on 4s and a Feigao 9xl will get you going, but you may have to gear more conservatively to keep the heat in the system down. Fans on the Mamba Max and motor would be in order, and the RC-Monster motor heat sink would be a must to keep the motor clamped together.

The 3rd possibilty is to wait a few more months. the Mamba Monster Max is supposedly going to be coming out in early 08. That could possibly be a drop in system for you with no figuring at all. It would be the middle of the road system you are looking for performance/price wise. Its estimated at around $300 for the esc/motor combo. But at this point its all still just a fable. Thay have been talking about it for years now, so who knows if they will actually come thru this time.

Sweet looking truck, when you get it all done and you are going to take it up to Leisure Hours let me know. I'll bring my e-revo out and meet you there.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...
