Using the 3.3 tranny and locking it into second is much simpler. I have done it both ways and would never use the e-maxx/e-revo tranny again for building.

I have been thinking about getting a G3R chassis and going with an E maxx tranny to balance weight ( I am thinking about running 2 5s packs in series for a 10s system) so I am wondering what you didint like about the E maxx style
