Gearing questons for the crt.5 - 09.08.2008, 06:52 PM

I plan on running a medusa motor...Should I get the 5mm shaft or 1/8"? It seems that the larger pinions w/the 5mm shaft might limit gearing.

Also, what are you guys running for gearing...

How is it for speed, run time? I was looking at the 4800 Medusa for a power plant...good,bad or ....

In my .5ext, I run a medusa 4800kv 50mm with a 11t pinion on 2s. I've only run about 4 packs(trakpower 2s 4900mAh), but in a baseball field @ WOT all the time, I get like 8-10min runtime. After that, temps stay about 150f on the motor, 140f on the esc, and 120f on the lipo. I'm sure racing I'd get longer runtime, like 15min. or so. It tops out at about 36-38mph, a touch slower than my kyosho lazer, which radered in @ 40mph.

As I stated above, I am looking at the same set up as you. The only difference is that I will be running a 6400mah 2s which should give me an extra 5 min or so run time.

I'm running this setup with a 15t on stock tires, 6000mah 2s. I get over 20 minutes. I would recomend the 5mm as you know it will never break! Also I don't see how it will limit you. You have to remember that this is mod1 gearing, I don't know where your going to get 1/8" mod 1 pinions. Plenty of gears available from RCM

That is how you will run mod1 with 1/8 shaft (bore reducer). Mike carries them as well but the main page/store will not load so I cant link to it.

I will be running the bore reducer on my mod1 pinions as well.

Avoid the bore reducer if you can - the shafts get a fair amount of stress - 1/8 can break, hence Novak's gone to 5mm for 1/10 scale HV.

I broke my feigao 1/8 7L shaft on my crt.5 - Go 5mm if you are buying a new motor - No reason not to.

This is Mike's bore reducer: http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...reducer&cat=40

But like Arct1k said, it's better to use a larger shaft from the start, particularly is larger vehicles.

I knew of the bore reducer. But he had originally thought that running a 5mm shaft was going to limit his gearing options. No matter what your still using the same pinions so gearing options are still the same.
