Basically the same chemistry. Still heavy and require a 2p config to work adequately...

A little off-topic, but does anyone know if their A123 dev kit contains all 4 cells or just one? Seems too cheap for the full dev pack, but a little expensive for one cell. The description says dev pack, which comes in a 4 pack IIRC...

It's a single cell. There's no way they could be selling (4) A123-branded cells that cheap. I think they mean it's the same cell you get in the dev. kit.

ya, i was wondering the same as BrianG. A single cell is about $12-$15 at some places, and considering how much cheaper everything else on HC is... maybe someone can email them and get an explaination??

What, you didnt expect me to pass that one up did you?

Anyway, I think the developer kit cells are more expensive as they are more like matched, hand-picked cells. Useless when you are buying them individually, but in a normal pack of 4 or whatever, it means they are more likely to stay in balance, like matched lipo cells in a pack for example...

LiFePO4 aren't the same as A123. The A123 uses the same LiFePO4 chemistry, but with a few additives. IIRC.

You are correct. A123 which is a propriety name for the process of 'doping' the anode and cathode with chemicals that enable the cell to discharge with a higher C rating. True A123 cells IMHO are much better than the cheap chinese imitations that are floating around. I have tried both and the A123 are much better suited for the purpose of Racing and Bashing.

those looked like true A123 cells. HC also sells knock of LiFe cells but they do not perform the same from what I have heard.

As for A123 cells they work just fine in my monster truck. They are a tad heavier but you can charge them so fast with just 2 packs you can run all day. Best way to get the cells are buy a dewalt 36 volt battery pack and havest the cells out of there. You should be able to get them for about 10.00
