the xl has more torque thus less effort to move the truck which will result in lower temps. i have heard of them running 105 after 20 minutes and the esc at about 95. the xl will allow you to gear higher with a lower kv rating and more windings. and yes, the xl will be more efficient than a L. i would assume you run on 12 or 14 cells? if so i would go for a 8xl or maybe a 9xl if you want good runtime and alot of power. remember, the more torque the higher you can gear and a xl will do just that, provide more torque.
