I had an etti, but blowed it due to wrong gearing... the throttle curve was a bit strange to me, but I probably could have played a bit more w/ the settings.

as far as I remember, the breaks were similar to my plane esc's in my buggy, break automatically when throttle is in neutral position. I think, compared to my plane esc the breaks were more instantly. I guess, they're well manufactured. but it got warm. they claim to have high quality and ultra low restistance stuff, but it didn't stay cooler than the plane esc.

those breaks are not a permanent solution; I had the 200a plane esc as a short term thing (which became permanent). modded w/ some caps and a fan very solid, good throttle etc, but the breaks just suck, when you don't keep the mechanical breaks.

to be honest, in every day use, I don't see any better performance then my cheapo-plane esc (200a, looks like a suppo, dunno if it's one).

about the hardening, take it to the local shop to get it done properly, it's not that easy. they should do that for a few bucks, regarding how expensive this hobby is, its worth it. go with the pro.

Hi mate,

Great thread! I've been wanting to convert my 5B for ages, but the motor mount is the biggest issue for me :(.

Anyway, with regard to looking for a digital servo, is it for steering or brakes or both? I run one of these for my steering and it's been bulletproof.

Multiplex Rhino Digi 4

Even when the steering linkage or servo saver gets jammed up with mud and stuff, servo keeps going.

There's a few places that sell the alloy arms for em, just google "multiplex digi 4 arm"

It's a little bigger than my std sized servos.

As for spline, I'm using one of the arms that came with the baja kit. It says "Hi 8mm" on it. So Hitec I guess. Only problem is, the baja comes with a few arms

at first i bought the futaba s5050 for steering servo but i just traded it in for the HPI SFL 30MG digi servo so that i had the 8mm spline and could use the massive HPI servo arm.

ok, so i got my camera working again. here are some pics of recent work on the 1/5.

modded bumper. looks much more like truggy bumper.

redcat35

picked up a set of chrome spoke wheels.

redcat34

here are the integy disc brakes. coming along nice but not done yet. cant wait to get these all hoooked up.

redcat33
redcat32

set of modded baja 5b shocks on the rear. baja front shocks to come this week. these are 10x better than the rampage shocks and have a huge 6mm shock shaft for super strength.

redcat31

used a set of kyosho big bore shock boots as dog bone boots. these work much better than the huge HPI or Darksoul boots they sell for this.

shockbootRR

so this week should be a good week. i am anticipating getting my motor mount and spur gear back from the machine shop, my Hydra hv240 arrives, and a few other things that i plan to get done. i am hoping to have something that is starting to resemble a finished truck by next week. we'll see.
