From the pictures and exploded view, the center transmission box seems fully enclosed. So, how does the BL motor power the center transmission if there are no external gears?

well, it's not fully enclosed. There is an opening where the pinion hits the primary...........

The pinion runs under that flange and meshes with the primary. No shot of the opening, but thats where it happens
