Well, it could simply be a coincidence. Could be faulty memory, or something similar. Use a tool like Memtest86 (IIRC). It creates a bootable floppy and stresses each mem location. And if the mem is bad and you replace it, you might still have to reformat because data from the bad mem might have corrupted the data on the drive.
