batteries are shrinkwraped, even hardcased.

What about paint? The other option is to strip it and polish it.

You are forgetting that the power loss via heat dissipation of a decent battery will be quite low, around 1-2%. A motor, being around 90% efficient, will dissipate quite a bit more power as heat. Therefore, anything that insulates the can from the air will cause it to heat up more. So, if you are that concerned about aesthetics, have your desired motor custom anodized from the factory.

But even cheaper (and easier) would be to just use tinted glasses.
