I use the pads from the g-maxx chassis battery foam pads(I don't throw away the extra pieces that are cut out) to protect the controller. In a harsh environment(like r/c) any electronics device should be mounted in a way to protect it. I have seen the IC crystals worn off the board from a loose mount with no padding(friction will eventually wear away the heat shrink and then the controller's parts). Also, serum is corret-it is pretty easy to solder the parts back on, once you know where they go.
