To add to pinolelst's post: If you insist on throttling down, then use a motor like the LMT or Neu, which run better on partial throttle. That would be more expensive than a couple of extra pinions though...
To answer your other question: The DX2 is a 2 channel radio (throttle and steering), while the DX3 is a 3 channel (throttle, steering, and aux for a shift or whatever). The three channel radios can come in handy if using mechanical brakes because some radios have channel mixing. This lets you control the throttle and aux channels with the throttle control, which means you use the aux to control the brake so you can have seperate EPAs set. Also, the DX3 has a 3 model memory, while the DX2 has a 2 model memory. The newer DX3.0 has a 4 model memory.
