OK I'm alittle lost. I sold my vxl motor and setup not the new mega motor. So I screwed up becuse the mega motor I got 22/30/1 is not as good as the vxl motor? What is the differences?

OK my bad. I was starting to sweat over here. Thought I made another mistake.

On the MM is the new software already programmed or do I need to download it from some where? Also I noticed the mega has openings at the front..could a use a snap on heat sink to cover these up so dirt and stuff doesn't get in? Or is it open for air flow to keep everything cool?

If you run in any kind of a dirty/dusty area, you may want to seal those hols off IF you don't have any heat issues.

The MM should come with the programming cable (USB) and a disc to install it, then it will automatically check for updates. I think the current one is v1.19 and it should tell you what the version is when you plug it in to adjust settings.

Temps should not be much of a problem at all if you are still running NIMH, but if that's the case you may want to look into lipo's. Way more power!!!

There are a few debates as to what lipo's work well on the budget end, the zippy's are cheap and people like them so far. MaxAmps have the most complaints for their price, and Neu Energy (sold here in the RCM store) are a sure bet.

(going back to re-read your setup now :)

LOL setup as in?........OK just a rustler with an hot racing trans case. One milehighrc 3S lipo 4000mah, a Imax b5 charger with a custom power source. What other info do you need? Oh gearing is a 26pin 76 spur. My temps on motor stay at 115 on a cool day but lately have got to 187 on the hot asphalt racing. I do have a 23 will probably buy more just to have.

Asphalt racing gets the temps on the high side, lots of traction next to dirt. gearing may have been a bit too high for the VXL but may be much happier with the high torque of the mega/MM combo.

Glad to see you have the lipo (I've got the B6 and love it). Youve got a better tranny case so I think the gears may stick around for a while.

Seems like you are right on track to me, but yah, you shold keep a good range of gears on hand to tune for temps later. How are the temps of your lipo when racing?

It has only broke 100 twice that I know of. I built an aluminum plate at work to raise up the speed control so the bat could fit under. But the plate seems to draw heat out of the speed control and makes the back of the battery warmer then the rest but only by about 10 degrees.

Also I only race on training mode so I don't think I'm pulling that many amps. Even on speed runs my battery doesn't get hot but my motor and speed control seems to cool down. Still trying to figure that one out.

You should be pleasently supprised at the difference the mega will make. You'll also come to love the MM programability. Sorry you have a bit of a wait till the used MM's start popping up all over the place. The wait to purchase it should pay off well $$$. You may even want to pick up the MMM (if cash is a non issue), it's a bit bigger than the MM but if you've already built a better ESC mount you may not have fit issues. Later on you could go to a higher voltage (~6S lipo) if you wanted...

Other thing is if you are using 3S you should also be using a UBEC, it will keep the ESC cooler too.

Edit: the MMM will have an internal UBEC

Whats a ubec? I probably will order a MM tonight or tomorrow. Time is kinda an issue right now since my racing days are close to an end. I race with guys from work 4 times a day and the place is closing and I'll be moving. I will still use it as a basher but as for racing other guys who knows.

UBEC is a switching voltage regulator, it takes the 11.1v the lipo puts out and makes it the 5~6v the radio/servo's need.

The ESC usually has a voltage regulator in it but it workis differently, it's a linear (not switching) regulator, so it has to bleed off some heat (wattage) to bring the voltage down to what it needs. A switching regulator turns on and off at a controlled rate to produce the proper voltage without much heat at all.

The bec in the ESC will get hotter the more volts it has to bleed off (heat you don't want in your ESC) using s UBEC like this http://www.castlecreations.com/products/cc_bec.html will remove heat from the ESC.

Have no fear about getting the MM, lots of guys have run them in some heavy hitting MT's with good success, you'd be one of the few actually using it within specs hahaha. No worries.

We try to keep everyone even so its fun. I run my rustler on training mode to keep everything close. Well they found great deals on 8 cell nimh and now are walking me on training mode but I still smoke them on 100%. I figured maybe a better motor would even things out.(still very new to this stuff) But since it won't work and one of the guys wanted my setup I just sold it to him and now I'll buy the new MM and fan. Didn't mean to offend anyone.
I probably came on the wrong way. My apologies. This are the top motors so far that I have come to know: Neu, Mega, Plettenberg, Hacker and Lehner. They are top notch and a lot of times copied by others. I have a little ACn22/30/2 that is just balistic in my MBX5T. Runs cool and has more power then a Feigao 7XL. From what you've told us, you got a good del for it and that's good.
