I am currently running a 9920/8S combo in my all aluminum FLM Stampede. I'm running 17:87 gearing and clocked a max speed (GPS verified) of 29.8mph on a 6cell GP3300 matched pack. With 9 cells, I should break 40mph easily which should keep up with your dad's Revo.

With a 6L, you should be able to get a tad bit more speed on 6 cells. I can probably give you more info this weekend on that as I have a 6L on the way to go in my relatively stock stampede.
I'd go with the 8s and any 70amp+ esc. I've hit over 40mph on only 8 cells in less than 50 feet (radio range sucks in my apartment complex). Motor temps are around 115 by the end of the pack.

Also, as someone said earlier, go with the rustler. Stampede will wheelie way to much with the kind of power we're talking about. My rustler rides wheelies all day with my Etrex strapped to the front bumper.

oh yeah, well I like the pede cause its a bigger truck, but i planed on lowering it a little, closer to rustlers height, i just like the way the pede looks with big tires and all, looks more like a bad boy the rustler looks kinda wimpy( bad work but maybe you know what i mean)
thats a nice one you have. if you gear it with less tourgue and dont slam the throttle it wont wheelie as much
