You will see a lot of guys put the emaxx tranny on a TXT. You need a servo for changing gears but set up the right way will give you the crawling and then shift to some wheel spinning fun.

I kept the TXT tranny. It is strong and smaller than the emaxx

Ok. I have a trans and the truck comes with a new kit for it.
I have a few servos laying around for shifting.

And can you shoot a pic of your savage. she needs a diet! aluminum is nice, but useless.. the savage in stock form is beefy as it is. Only thing you need in aluminum is the diff-housings.. the FLM bulkless is too heavy IMO.

OK here is where I am so far. Buddy had an HPI Low CG CF Chassis for a good price...free. I have aluminum diff cups that I never installed.

I took the nitro stuff off and the tires and it dropped the weight to 8lbs.

What do I do with the brake? Will I use it or the esc brake?

Should I get lighter tires?

In the RC-monster store they show a servo plate to get rid of the box. Is that worth doing to lighten up and open it up?

Should I eliminate the stock motor plate and just put aluminum spacers?

I am also going to replace my uprights with the stock ones.

Thoughts so far???

If you run a two speed the mechincal brakes have to stay. You will need a y harness for servo and esc to run off same channel.
Cf chassis is a great deal. hard to bea the price.
The servo plate is up to you. Not necessary but a preference.

Now you have me really confused. I am using a three speed. Why can't I just use the esc brake? How would I wire it?

I am guessing that Reverse would be a third channel function.

Thanks,
John

It is cause of the one way bearing.
It is needed as well for when it shifts to 2nd and 3rd the shaft spins faster than
the gear it is on does. When you apply the esc brake the motor will only stop
spur. The truck is like in free wheel mode. Yes the reverse would be on 3rd channel.
You only need a y connector for like a revo steering servos.

UPDATE:

I have got the rig down to about 6 lbs before wheels and tires. I ordered Proline Wabash 40's and Crimefighters for the weight savings and an extra 1/2 inch offset.

I am dealing with Kershaw Designs on the motor plate and he has a Nemises 6XL with a Castle Creations Phoenix 125. Is this a good combo?

My question is what would be a good Spur Gear/Pinion combo? I am looking for backyard bashing and speed to smoke the nitro guys. :dft012:

I will probably run 14 cells for now...going to LiPo in the future.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
John

the 6XL is too hot for 14 cells. better of with a 7 or 8XL.

PS Mike has got a template for the motorplate as well. you can shoot him an email about it. he has got a warrior 9920 controller for 150 bucks, which is fair priced.

with the phoenix 125 you need to use the mechanical brakes, and most likely a stick transmitter.. It's got some issues with pistol grip transmitters.

It's possible that Mike has got a singlespeed conversion for the savage soon. (fixing it in 2nd speed)

You have my head spinning now.

I was told that they Phoenix 125 would be the way to go especially if I decided to go LiPo. The Nemesis 6XL I am able to get at the price of a 8XL so I thought that would be the way to go.

I have already ordered the BL conversion from Kershaw...I have no problem with that. He is designing me a Low CG mount.

My confusion is in the Motors, ESC and Batteries.

If you were building a BL Savage basically as a Backyard Basher and occasionally kicking some Nitro Ars, What would be the best combo?

Motor:
ESC:
Batteries:
Spur:
Pinion:

Note: Truck will weigh about 8 lbs loaded...Three speed tranny...lowered suspension...Spektrum DX3 Radio.

Thanks to all that respond.

John

I not sure how well the phoenix will do. It is made for planes not mt.
The 6xl I would rather have a 7xl. You could look at a 9920.

It is obvious that you guys know a heck of a lot more than I do. I got into this because I wasn't going to run nitro anymore.

I really need someone to point me in the right direction. Buying a motor and esc is not a cheap investment and I would like to do it the correct way.

Can you tell me:

Motor:
ESC:
Batteries:
Spur:
Pinion:

I know everyone has different ideas of what is the "best"...I just want something to bash.

I was originally going to go with a Phoenix 125 with a 7XL. That is when you stated that I would need to use the mechanical brake with a "Y" to the servo. Are you saying that I need to go a different direction?

If you keep the 3 speed trans you will need the mechical brake.
I just don't know how well the phoenix will do.
If it was my truck. I would buy the 9920 and a 8xl feigao.
Gearing would start at the 15 52 and see how it does on temps.
For batts the 8000 mah lipos are great. You would need a lvc for 9920.

Can I run NiMH with this set up until I jump into lipos?
