I have just done a DM-1 conversion and what I am finding is you need to pick the motor kv and voltage very carfully if you intend to run the 2 speed tranny. 2 speed really limits your gearing options. I have only been able to find pinions/spurs that allow a 2 tooth range on the gearing. Thats not much to work with when dialing it in. So pay close attention to the rpm you are looking to achieve with the motor, you dont have the option of "gearing up" to get the speed if you want more, and you also dont have the option of dropping the gearing if you missed and are too tall and getting hot.

That is the limitation I ran into without alot of 2 speed pinion options.

Mike has released a 2 speed pinion adapet for a 5mm shaft and it is pretty sweet. However as of now it only supports the stock Losi SLT pinion gears, and there really arent many options for gears available on that. He did say that he will be working on a rnage of gears for it in the future, but I dont think that it is really high on his priority list right now, so when that will happen is not really clear.

After all that... Are you planning to run the 2 speed or convert to a single speed. I am really liking the way my DM-1 drives with the 2 speed.

I recently did an OFNA GTP with a Neu 1512 2.5d(2000kv) with a quark on 5s.It totally blows away my bros Inferno GT we guess it is over 60mph with an 18/51 tooth. It is really hard to keep rubber tires on this thing, just has so much torque. I'm going to try 23/51 and soften all the settings on the quark and run some foams.

Unfortuntly it is now winter up here so unless we get a warm spell I'm done till spring.

I'll pipe in when I get more runs on it but it is a blast.

as for the cost
189.99 kit
45.00 body
240 motor
275 esc
300 battery

it cost double what my brothers GT did but I think it was worth it.

I would not suggest a Serpent F180 for conversion, I bought one with plans of conversion and decided not to convert it because of limited space to mount everything.

Mike is hard at work right now on my inferno gt f430 conversion, he is setting it up to use the two speed tranny with a mechanical brake on 5s. We are going first class all the way, and he promises that it will be the bomb. NEU 1515 2.5d / MGM 224.18 / flightpower 5s. I will post pics when I get it.

CooLRunnings.... - 12.02.2007, 10:00 PM

I definitely want to see this.....
someone said that this car hit almost 80mhp.....is it capable?

what are your set ups? I think Fine Design RC has a brushless RTR version, but I heard he is using outdated electronics on it? is that true?

one more thing, are the Gears Mike is making for you a "higher Gear" ratio for higher top speed? if not, what is wrong with the factory gears that the Kyosho GT comes with.

p.s. nice choice in the Ferrari body

The fine design hits 60 mph on 4s, mine will be geared for 50-60 mph any faster and the car starts comming off the ground because air goes under the body and lifts it up. He said that to do 80 mph you would need a very low profile body like a wedge. He said I will still have a blast only going 60 plus my electronics will run super cool and I will get great run times I trust his judgment and told him to do everything his way.
