My Brushless 8ight Project

I forgot to mention that I cut out alittle bit on the body to get some air flow to the motor. The motor doesn't seem to get much air flow to it from where it is. There was also a new sticker put on the back of the body. It might of also helped with the cooling.





I also required longer screws for the skid plate to go on properly. The standard screws are 8-32 x 1/2" Flat Head and that is the longest that Losi make. Associated make some 8-32 x 7/16" Flat Head screws which retail for $6 for a pack of 6 in Australia. That works out to be $1 each. I went down to my local fastener shop and ordered 50 x 8-32 x 3/4" flat head phillips stainless steel screws. 50 of them cost me $11. Minimum eftpos was $10 so I ended up ordering 50 of them. Doesn't hurt to have some spare.

Like the little cut out in the body for cooling , it's as if the body was designed like that for motor cooling .
Have you noticed much difference now with the body cut .

How has the 8ight been holding up , overall .

Have read of people complaining that it is a fragile buggy, they musn't know how to drive. This buggy is great, this buggy has had as much abuse as my REVO and still no breakages

Iv'e never been brand loyal , some buggies are a little more fragile than others but on a whole most breakages happen from bad driving.

My Buggy is the strongest thing I’ve owned.. Although my Revo is on 8s an my buggy is on 4 - 5s. I still think it takes a beating where my GorillaMaxx would brake..

i have a jammin cr pro buggy , i will try replacate your setup as close as possible , but i very very much doubt i will gain another 30 mins of runtime

You should be getting minimum 20 mins with the battery you are using.
Somehthing isn't right.
What temps are you getting ?
Your driveline might be binding some were causing drag and robbing you of run time .

Check your diffs , cvd's Centre front and rear ( especially the pins ) and bearings

i have 2 brand new truggies , no binding , everything smooth as silk

got 7 x 4s flight power 4900 packs (so that rules out a dud pack)

1 truggy is MM 1515 1Y geared 13/52 motor temp 50deg C
other truggy MM 1512 2.5d geared 14/52 motor temp 70 deg C

both get 10 mins runtime

then i tried the 1512 2.5d on 5s with 12/52 and still 10 mins . with no extra speed and motor temp 70 deg C

Got me stumped on this one , maybe some of the experts can chime in on this . Might have to start up a new thread to get some answers

What are the settings on your MM? Is it the same ESC you're using in both vehicles? Set reverse power to 100% and see if that helps, I had a MM running backwards, set to 50% once and it took me a while to figure it out. I don't really understand the short runtimes though.

yes same esc settings.

forward / brake only no reverse
timing 5deg
punch control disabled .. < maybe that has something to do with it ?
start power medium
drag brake disabled
voltage cutoff (auto lipo for when 4s ) 15v for when used 5s

im so keen to get 30 min runtimes !
we have a private rc track of our own so we just bash/race lap after lap all day

that might help but i am also a bit confused... when i saw 45 minutes i thought it was impossible? i was hoping 15 minutes+ from my 4600mah a123 cells (which can be drawn down to about 5% (according to the charger) so perhaps its not going to be easy on a large track?

Just curious as to whether the Muggy uses the same chassis as the 8ight-T? If it does, then technically this conversion kit should work for the muggy: http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=2870

I run a 1512 2.5d in my buggy,on 5s with a 16v cutoff,running hard on my local track I get 20min's.low start power,50% punch control,lowest timing motor temps 160,mm 110,batt's come off 120 degrees F.thunder power 25c 5000mah.Also with the throttle endpoint turned down to 75% as the buggy is to fast for me on the track.

I tried it on 4s 25c 5000 tp pack,had to turn endpoint back up to 100%,cutoff to 12.5v again get 20min runtime same gearing for both 13-48.
I am also running this in an 8ight.
