Ran my E-XXL in the snow this morning and it was awesome. I didn't get full on into deep snow or anything like that. Just in a parking lot. I was curious to know whether or not this amount of snow was acceptable or unacceptable? I know that the MMM isn't waterproof, but I've heard many times that it's resistant to water around it... just not submerged. There is NO WAY that I am going to make up some stupid looking plexi-glass housing for it, and I don't like the idea of smothering it with a shower cap or balloon. This is a high-powered set up and I don't want to invite temp spikes. I'm not all that jazzed up about waterproofing it either. Basically... if it looks stupid or voids my warranty, I'm NOT going to do it. I'd rather just not drive the truck in snow if that were the case.

I love it how you can't see anything with regards to my chassis. LOL!

That qualifies as submerged. You're either going wo waterproof it and void the warantee, or end up paying for repairs out of pocket from water damage.

Just saying that's as wet as anything you'd expect to smoke an Esc. Remember it's a heat source so where you don't see snow that's because it's water sitting in the bottom inside the case.

Well.. phooey! Kinda thought so, but didn't know. Looks like my RC's are going into storage for the winter!!

Thankfully... the ESC still fires up!

I've ran in the winter with my MMM for a couple years now, ever since they came out. Last year I coated my esc with liquid tape because I was planning on a lot of water. I never had a problem with any of them. Check out this video and you'll see what I did with my two week old Flux.

I soaked mine in some stuff called Corrosion X, I found a vid on you tube. I have bashed the hell out of it loading the whole lid with snow, then just leaving it in shower to melt off. No issues whatsoever. Good stuff.

Remember the CC ESCs are water resistant, not water proof (Traxxas claims are bogus anyways... they may be a bit more resistant though).

Plasti dip works perfectly.

Traxxas Esc's are as waterproof as they can be. I have submerged them, as well as even dying a Vxl 3s black...

Hey Jpo
How did you get that e-revo RX case to look so nice sitting in front on your XXL?
BTW it looks like there are no holes in your chassis?
There is also something fishy going on with center skid plate too.
And finally, is that a custom CNC aluminum battery tray made out of 7075 your running that mounts from the bottom so that you cant see any of the screws?
I do like the custom sliver colored grab handle that you installed so that your "office" fingers dont have to get cold touching the snow.

Yeah plastidip is fine, I have done it several times and its really worth it, never have to be worried about splashing in some water or driving in the snow.

Doo... interesting observations! I'm not at liberty to say anything about my chassis at this point. But let's just say "it's all in who you know". That "Grab Handle" is very handy. It's a modified New Era Roll Bar for the Nitro LST. It's AWESOME. Bondo did the mod for me. Whatta guy!

Plastidip huh? I guess I need to look into that. I'm not even sure what it is. Is it that stuff that you get at Harbor Freight that you can dip tool handles in? I'll have to look it up to see what is involved. I'm pretty sure now that I saw a Squirrel vid once on how to do it. But at that time, the "long term" verdict was still out. And it voids the warranty. I guess that doesn't mean you can't pay to have CC fix or replace the ESC if it fails though. It's not as much as buying a new one anyway.

Btw.. After the snow run yesterday (which ruled btw), I took those pix, went to work, and brought it inside to dry out. When I left work to go home, I noticed that the lights of the MMM were on ever so dimly, even though it was off and the radio was off too. I powered it up and it ran fine thank God. But the lights would stay on even when unplugging the battery. (FYI, I go sick of peeling my body back to unplug the Lipo, so I reconnected my on/off switch). This morning when I looked at it, there were no dim lights at all, and it ran like a champ.

What do those lights indicate? I guess I could look it up....

Our lovable RCM "butthole" Neil says Plastidip is bad. I would tend to believe what ever he says cuz he's usually spot on.

Also, what about the Outerwears covers?? It seems like no one knows anything about them... which I find odd. Maybe I'll check the Baja forum for that advice. I don't see how they can be bad (I wish there was a picture of it). They seem breathable and would keep snow out... allowing for some incidental moisture which should be fine if they are "water resistant" ESC's no?

Plasti Dip can be peeled off. It is pretty much the same as liquid tape, which I have also used.

I plasti dipped a few lipos awhile back and had to remove the plasti dip to re-solder the leads since they took a bad tug on a hard crash. Peeled right off.

Dudes over at the HPI Baja Forum said the Outwears cover works great. Especially in the winter because it can increase temps... but in the winter it doesn't at all because of the cold. I wouldn't run it in the summer anyways.

Something to consider... and no modding needed! It's like $16 too.
