what truck? - 12.10.2007, 12:10 AM

since i have finished my revo i want to start building another car. but this one i want to make it a speed demon. i want it to be a 1/10 scale stadium truck.

i just cant make up my mind on what truck to get to do this to.

i have thought of a few trucks. just wondering what truck would be the best to upgrade.

ruster
mt2 or mt1
jato

Well, the jato is not a very good vehicle for a conversion, I had one and did not like the handling, it was too light in the rear for my taste. Plus it is difficult to gear properly, unless you convert it to revo mod 1 spurs and use mod 1 pinions. The mt1 or 2 seem to have weak diffs, until the al diff cups are added. The Rustler is the best bet for staight line speed out of your list. It is light enough that a mm system will work without excessive heat. If you want 4wd then may I suggest a hot bodies lightning sadium 10. It is a very solid 10th scale truggy that uses regular 10th scale 2.2 truck tires. It has very strong diffs and a solid center spur gear with a slipper clutch. Run that with a 7l feigao on 3s and it will be fast. I have one currrently setup with a hacker c50 13l on 5s lipo and it is easily doing 45mph, and has potential for a lot more. I tried the crt.5 and found the ls10 a better platform for bashing, maybe with mike's extended chassis the crt.5 would be better, but it is about twice as expemsive than a ls10. Utlimate hobbies usually has the ls10 on special for 185 plus free shipping. Sell the nitro stuff and stock radio and the deal gets better.

based on the options you gave I would go with the new vxl rustler. It would be fast but it wouldn't really be a project.

Not so sure about the vxl. I had one and sold it cause it ran way too hot. Seemed like a poor esc and a cheap feigao motor to me. I would rather spend the money on decent equipment than on some ineffecient stuff!

I had one too but never tried it on more then 2s(mine ran cool with that in a mf2). If it does run hot with more voltage, he could go rustler, mamba and throw 4s on it. That should make a speed demon. :)

I have a feeling that a 9xl on 4s would not have enough rpm for a ton of speed. It may be able to handle lots of gearing though. Ithink a 7l feigao and 3s would most likely get you where you need to go!

Take a look at this:
Differential Ratio: 1
Transmission Ratio: 2.727272727272727
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 54
Pinion Tooth Count: 20
Total Voltage: 11.1
Motor KV: 3511 "7l feigao"
Tire Diameter (inches): 4.0
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0.0059
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 2.7 : 1
Total Ratio: 7.36364 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 12.57 inches (319.19mm)
Total Motor Speed: 38972.1 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 62.98 MPH (101.17km/h)
Effective Speed Rate: 5.67mph/V (9.11kmh/V)
Effective KV Value: 3511
Motor Torque: Amperage not specified...
Final Torque: Amperage not specified...

I have run similar gearing in my pede and it will run with a 9l, a 7l will be insanely fast and not too heavy either.

Problem with the feigao motors is that too much over 40k rpm and the effecientcy starts to drop and they get really hot. The light weight vehicle will help, but if you want to use 4s go with a 9l motor. That will give you about 1k rpm more than the 7l on 3s and it will still be under 4k rpms total. You can gear that setup in a rustler for as much speed as you want. The l can motors have enough power to push around a 4wd emaxx!

FYI I just went to a 7L on 3s on the CRT .5 - works great. Picked a new one up on ebay for $20 :)
