I am installing this on my Revo, and it how it is currently setup, I will need to lenghten the motor (ESC) wires. Will this have any effect on performance? I know some BL motor wire lengths cannot be changed. Has anyone done this? Or shall I re-configure my truck??

If you need to make the motor wires longer, it's what you need to do. It's just a good idea to use a heavy gauge wire, if lengthening the wires over the stock length. Of course, the best thing to do is to place the esc in a place where the existing wires will reach.

You can't lengthen the motor wires, so you'll have to make the esc wires longer. I'd unsolder the existing leads and solder in new ones.

And yes, I was going to add on at the ESC so I dont have 14 solder connections in the system haha

You can swap the entire tranny around and have the motor at a better position

Either way, it looks like the mount that you have has a provision for another motor on the other side. If so, you could just use a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate to mount the esc too. Drill and tap the plate 3mmX.5mm and use motor mount screws to hold it in place. If you do that, you'll likely be able to shorten the wires, further decreasing resistance.

Maybe it's just the picture, but the shaft on that motor looks small. Is it a 5mm shaft? If this is your first conversion, that 8L will likely get you rolling, but be prepared to deal with the heat. How many cells are you going to run? An 8XL would probably be a better choice of motor.

I know I can go faster, but Im just looking to have a little fun. Speed is not a priority, I have several other fast rides. It will be running on 12-14 cells.

nope. Its built just to be a basher. Neighbors call the cops on me every time I fire up my LST sooooo I built this one....

so far... heat is not a problem, but we will see how it goes. I am happy with the performance but I am getting a bit of cogging. Need to track that down and get it straightened out, then Ill be a happy camper.

What gearing are you running? Check all of your connections for a bad solder joint and stuff. If all is good, try dropping the size of your pinion. In my trucks, I've found that the MM cogs when the motor is over geared.

thanks for the help!! Im confident the solder work is good. I may be a bit over geared, but I am running a E Savage tranny (one speed) with a 20T pinion. Right now with a heat sink on the motor, I am seeing temps of about 145-160 range when I temp it after a run, and the ESC is about 150 using the internal BEC (Im thinking that may drop some if I use a rx pack or a UBEC) Ill have to go to the LHS and pick up a few gears and tinker a bit to see what happens when I gear down. Right now its pretty crazy and it will flip over at almost any speed :D Fun stuff!! My main concern other than the minor cogging is how long will the T Maxx center shafts hold up!!!

The 8L is a pretty high kv motor, considering that most go with something in the range of an 1800-2200kv motor for truck applications. the 20T may be a bit too much. Try a 16 or 18 pinion. The 145-160 range is ok, but it will go up with extended runtimes. Going with an external bec and reducing the gearing will help with the temps on the esc.

Thanks for the input. Those temps are after a full run on 12 matched IB4200's so run times arent going to change too much. The only thing that is going to be an issue is once ambient temp starts rising. I know they will get a tad longer with lower gearing though. I know on my XXXT with a CC5700, I can go with a WIDE range of gearing I usually use anywhere from 14 to 20T depending on the current track setup. I also havent tinkered with the controller settings yet so right now, everything is set on "normal"
