best esc for b50 10 xl?

I have a hacker B50 10xl for my emaxx and a fagio 6l in my stampede. I have been using a bk warrior 7018 with the fagio in the pede, but it will thermal if I am hard on the throttle. I'd like to use 12cells in the pede and 12 to 18 in the emaxx. what speed controllers are best suited for use in both of these? (i.e. thermals etc.) Will a cheaper esc work well such as an m.troniks or mamba max? or do I have to spend the $280 on a quark?
I have 17/51 32 pitch gearing in the pede (thanks for the steel pede tranny) and emaxx, gearing is undecided but the options are limited with a 5mm output shaft on both motors.
