brushless question?

hi there im running a gmaxx w/hv maxx 4.5 brushless motor , it is starting to run hot, i want to up grade i like the neu 1515 but i also found the nemisis blue xlt 4. 2 horse power brushless motor @ finedesignrc.c...which is better?i want great acceleration and no thermaling...:032:

from my experience try to stay away from FD they aren't much help once you have bought it and neu's are probably better than a XLT4 anyway.

Neu's have more torque than a XLT4 as it is a 4 pole motor and if you were to get a neu get a Quark as the neu's work better on them, it is something to do with the timing am not totally sure.

What is an XLT-4 anyway? I don't see how he can publish a spec like 2hp either. What the motor can put out is going to be limited to what the batteries are capable of. I'll bet that CF won't even give you a kv rating on the motor. I'll bet it's some high kv piece of crap that will have trouble surviving a 5 minute race without over heating. If you want to go inexpensive, just get an appropriate Feigao motor. The Nue is arguably the best motor out right now, from what I've read. I'm still running Feigaos. They are so cheap that I can lay off of them.

This comes up now and again. The basic conclusion is that its just a rebadged Feigao/Wanderer. I would bet a 7XL or so (make it run as powerful as possible and screw the customer if it thermals.) There was an article on his LST (or MGT?) conversion on 4S. Basically the nitro guys who wrote it were "holy @#$%#$% its fast, we had to let the motor cool after 5min b/c of temps, but it is fassssstttttt!!!!!" (and this was just driving around a parking lot...)

But who knows as he won't reveal the Kv rating. That's just gay. That's why RCM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FD

FYI, 1HP~750W, so that's a 1500W motor. Pretty much all the XLs are ~1500W capable. Don't get the motor (or anything) from him.

Finnster, I do believe that it is a re-badged Feigao motor and may even be a 6XL. The "kit" that my buddy bought from FD came "designed" to run 3S lipo. CF said that the motor would self destruct on 4S. I think the motor designation in that kit was an XLT1.

He tried to sell me that motor too (XLT-4), I kept asking him what Kv it was, but he said "look, can't tell everything about something, lose a costumer, oh well"

It just kind of sucks that a guy like that gets all of the positive press that he does, because there is an almost infinite supply of first time buyers to take advantage of.

Regardless of FD's track record, eventually word of mouth will get out and people will vote with their wallets. If those first time buyers did a little homework first, they would see the issues past customers have had. Until then, I would simply point those helpless buyers to RCM after they learned their lesson - too bad it was learned the hard way. Badmouthing FD or any business here will simply appear that the people doing the talking are just RCM fanboys. I say we just help those hapless victims and their experiences here will be the best lesson.

my current motor isn't too bad its the hv maxx 4400 ist fast enough really,and i get about 30min. run time on 2 crappy nimh batts. but it gets pritty hot though.im afraid it will burn up under lipo power!!!! ill run it till it burns up and then ill get a neu 1515 and some lipo batts.iv spent alot of money with rcm and plan to spend much more but there are alot of options out there that look great too.

A nue 1515 is like running two HVmaxxes in terms of torque.

If you like the speed with crappy batteries, step up to good cells and the 1515 and you'll be amazed.

I heard the CF xlt4 is a 6XL.

The HVMaxx ESC's are for sensored brushless motors.

Generally, the rule of thumb goes like this:
- A sensored ESC can only run sensored motors.
- A sensorless can run any three-phase brushless motor. The sensor cable simply isn't used.

A sensored motor is structurally the same thing as any sensorless motor, they just add Hall-effect sensors to it.
