on/off switch?

guys am putting it all together and want to add an on/off switch so the system is not always hot.

just wondering where it should go in this diagram ? between the ubec and the receiver?

You put the switch onto the esc's power switch wire, it does have one, doesn't it?

If you are going to use a switch at all, it would make the most sense to place it after the BEC, but before the receiver. That way, the BEC has a chance to
"settle down" after being plugged in. But, the switch on the BEC input would work too.

I think it easily handles it. It can handle caps plugged into the reciever, and that would be the biggest hurdle getting that up to potential.

Actually, what I meant was to give the BEC voltage a chance to settle down. Sometimes in switching regulators, you might get an initial pulse of noise or something until the circuit "settles down". But if the UBEC is designed properly, this shouldn't even be an issue.

OK now im trying to track down some of the connectors that go into the receiver. The little flat, 3 pin ones. Anyone know what the connector type is called?

It uses the very same distance as the standard computer plugs do. (IDE, also the normal sized jumpers, the plugs of the speaker/HDD light etc, all use the same pin-distance.)

ok what i was going to do was make a harness to wire my switch into that I can easily fit inline between the BEC and receiver rather than wire the switch into the existing wire.

To do this i really need the little plug type that will fit into the receiver. I could alternatively re-use the plugs I have and use a different kind of connector but this would pretty much defeat the purpose.

I also wanted to make up a little cable to remove the red wire from the ESC/Receiver connection as well, rather than hacking the red wire out of the the cable provided. To do this I will also need a socket for this little 3 pin flat connector with the corners trimmed off.

The 2 ends of this is what I was after, but this will probably do just fine

I imagine you could simply cut off the the tab on the J-connector to have it fit your regular connector.

I've managed to track down the individual connectors and sockets though so will make one up to fit :)
